Just picked up this beautiful bottle of Chateau La Lagune 1975 today and had a few questions. As a note, this is my first foray into a Bordeaux this old (I have had older Italian wines).
First off, storage, I live in the city while my parents are in NJ. We have a Eurocave there where I store all my wine but I do not have access to it as I won’t be in NJ this week. I need to keep this wine in the best shape possible until Thursday night as I will be traveling with it to Long Island to drink on Friday. My apartment is warm, around 66-70 degrees so would it be safest to keep it in the fridge for the few days? I have it next to a small pan of water to try to add humidity into the fridge. I’ve also set the fridge to the max temp of 45 Fahrenheit.
Second, decanting, how long would you suggest I decant this bottle, I’ve gotten various answers from online and from where I purchased it.
Third, stem wear, would a traditional Bordeaux glass be ok or would I need something with a smaller bowl as this wine may be more “delicate”
Fourth, transportation/ sediment. The wine has been sitting upright safely at Chambers street Wine from where I purchased it. It is upright now. Will the bumpiness of a bus ride cause too much trouble if I keep it upright and then let it sit still for just under 24 hours before drinking?
Lastly, Pairing. We will be grilling for dinner and I would
Certainly not pair such a great wine with hamburgers and hotdogs 🤪 so what would you recommend as far as cheese perhaps? Or pate? I defer to you all for suggestions!
