Has anyone used the Shure Lyric 8800?

Has anyone used the Shure Lyric 8800?

I was looking for a first microphone for my audio set-up (I have around €100 budget for the whole thing) and I found this for €20.

It seems nice from the pictures but I can't find info about it and I'm not knowledgeable enough about microphones to know how nice or bad it could be.

Anyone that has used it in the past and can comment about it? I'm mostly looking to record Social Media voice overs and maybe some podcasting in the future.

(I was thinking of pairing it with a Focusrite Saffire 6 that i found for a pretty decent price but I'm not 100% down on the interface)

Budget wireless mic that actually sounds good? Need recs

I do freelance video work on the side, mostly promos and product videos. Audio quality actually matters because clients notice when it's bad.

A while back I bought a cheap wireless mic to save some cash. Huge mistake. There was this constant hiss on every recording. At first I thought it was my environment, but even in a dead quiet room it was rough. One client even told me my finished work didn't seem professional enough which was really infuriating.

Since then, I've been hunting for a proper wireless mic. The DJI Mic 2 looks solid, but it's way more than I want to spend on something that isn't my main income. Recently I came across the DJI Mic Mini 2. The price is noticeably lower than the flagship, but it still has the charging case and magnetic clip. Makes me wonder if this might actually be the sweet soot for someone like me, or if I'm just setting myself up for another letdown.

Has anyone tried the Mini 2? Really don't want to cheap out and regret it a second time.

Youtube channel growing fast- need a better voice over mic. Budget $500

As the title says, I created a youtube channel almost 2 months ago and quickly got monetized and am honestly making decent money ($200 in first week). I want to reinvest into the channel with a good quality microphone.

My niche is poker vlogs in which I record my hands, but mute the table audio and record a voice over. So each episode is 30 minutes of just me talking. I'm not looking for voice tuning, just something that will capture clear high quality i can tranfer straight into my editing software.

I'm currently using a $20 walmart mic I bought years ago and it does not sound great.

Quick searches online reccomends Rode PodMic or elgato wave 3, but I'd love a second opinion before purchasing.

Thank you!!!!

Need help identifying these microphones + are they fake ?

Hello everybody!

I am looking to buy some microphones and spotted this ad for second hand ones. Are the Sennheiser real ones ? To my untrained eye they look similar to real ones I saw online but i'm not sure. The other microphones I have no idea which brand they are and the seller too. Could somebody help me identify them ?

Thanks

Is this Shure SM7B fake? (Genuinely hard to tell)

I apologize for posting this but would really appreciate any help as this one is genuinely hard to tell even after researching a lot. I currently have the option to buy this Shure SM7B. It’s a used product and is being sold at a store in my country, but I’m not sure if it’s real.

Reasons:

I’ve seen many videos on how to tell a fake and real apart and the mic doesn’t have any of the warning signs (to me at least, I am not an expert though) except the wire.

  1. The grommets stay on
  2. The capsule height is where it should be (halfway)
  3. Ring inside is metal and not black
  4. Back of the backplate is metal and not black
  5. Metal capsule mount is goldish brass like on the inside
  6. Tightening the knobs on the side holds the mic in place
  7. Wire on the outside doesn’t flex too much and retains its shape
  8. The silver of the screw holes is there
  9. The back cover is vacuum sealed
  10. Box doesn’t seem to have any spelling mistakes

Almost everything seems okay (to me at least, I am not an expert though) except the wires. The wire colors seem to be green, white, black and red/orange. Yellow wire is not there but should be there instead of the red/orange wire according to things I’ve seen online. Do you guys think it’s still possible this is real?

EDIT: This is in the Middle East, so there might be regional differences.

Anything cons when using the Shure KSM32C for screaming vocals?

Hey all. I'm close to buying the Shure KSM32C, as it seems like a good fit for all of my needs from what I can tell, although I can't find any anecdotes online when using it for harsh vocals. I specifically use a false chord technique, primarily with low-mid range pitches. I'm aiming for a sound akin to David Vincent, Dan Swano, or Mikael Akerfeldt. I know that Opeth used the Neumann TLM 103 on a couple early albums for vocals, and when listening to an isolated comparison between it and the Shure KSM32 they seem to have a lot of similar qualities, disregarding the difference in price of course. I'll be using it with a Motu M4 without any other preamps, although I expect to invest in one later on. Anyone know of anything I should be wary of regarding this purchase?

A friend has a Shure super 55 Deluxe and asked if it's good enough to record vocals with it.

This might be a question for the Microphone sub, but I'm starting here.

I recently reconnected with some old band mates of mine. We were a good band back in our time and even won on Star Search. Good original songs for that time. The subject of maybe doing some remote recording came up, as they still write. I'm the only one that has stayed up with modern recording tech and none of them even have an interface nor a DAW. I know, it's a tall order, but their smart guys and I think I can walk them through the process. Their all no stranger to recording studios.

The singer, who has an amazing voice, asked if his Shure Super 55 Deluxe would do in a recording situation. I'd never seen one before. It seems, looks are the only thing it has going for it. (ie) Sonics, Plosives, Et Al) I told him I would look into it and have yet to break the news that I don't think it would yield good results, or would it? It needs a cloud lifter, in the least. I think He needs some sort of LCD, to be honest. However, budget is a consideration, especially as they all are going to lay down some money for an interface. Which I'm suggesting a Volt 2 or something like it.

I'm very savvy on Pro Tools, I've been on it since '98, and am going to suggest they get "Intro" so I could walk then through the steps. They don't need more than 8 tracks respectively. The singer has Studio One and has a good understanding of computer based software. He has a video company. So the DAW work flow shouldn't be too hard for him.

My question would be, Given the budgetary constraints, What Mic/Mics would be a good suggestion. My first thought is an AT 2020 of something in that range. Or would the 55 Deluxe even be a viable choice? At $250, You would think it would sound at least halfway decent. Reviews say otherwise. It does look fancy, in a Retro kind of way. He uses it for his Single act playing around the Panama City Beach**,** circuit.

In the end, the goal is just trying to rekindle an old flame. The old "Getting the band back together"

Shure MV7 or HyperX QuadCast 2S

I want to start a video game review channel and get a better mic for gaming with friends. I've been looking at these two mics, but I can't decide even after using the calculator in this Reddit thread.

I care about my keyboard not getting picked up and removing background noise in general. I record from my room at home, which is in nature, and then at college in a city (not too loud, just general ambience). I don't have a soundproofed or sound setup room. I'm also so down to get a mic arm if that would help!

Thank you all!

Elgato Wave 3 keeps needing a replug when I switch to my Laptop/PC through my USB switch

I’m running a dual setup with a work laptop and a personal PC, and I use a USB switch so I can move my keyboard, mouse, and Elgato Wave 3 between both without unplugging everything.

The issue is that it does not work cleanly when I switch. On both my PC and my work laptop, the Wave 3 gets detected properly, but no voice input comes through.

On my PC side, the only way I can get it working again is by manually unplugging the USB cable at the back of the mic and plugging it back in.

On my work laptop side, I need to plug it into my USB dock first for it to work properly. After that, it starts detecting my voice again.

My current chain is:
Work laptop > dock > USB switch > Elgato Wave 3
PC > USB switch > Elgato Wave 3

What I’ve noticed:

  • The mic shows up as detected on both machines.
  • It still gives no input after switching.
  • Replugging the USB cable at the mic fixes it every time on PC.
  • Plugging it into the dock is needed on the work laptop side.
  • So the mic itself works, but the switch seems to leave it in a bad state.

Has anyone found a fix for this with the Wave 3 and a USB switch?

Need help finding a new mount

Very predictably, but unfortunately, the thumbscrew in my mount for my Warm Audio 47jr SE just snapped in half. Warm Audio sells replacement mounts for like $40, and quite frankly I don’t think it’s worth the money because I only got about 2 and a half months of light use out of the one that came with my mic. I’m very poor, does anybody have any cost-friendly solutions for mounting this thing? Is there any aftermarket mounts it will fit in? Any help would be appreciated thank you!

How to keep my voice crisp?

Hey, I just got a blue yeti microphone and it's pretty good when I'm up against it. I have a pop filter and noise filter on it, I'm not sure if it's those, but I feel like my voice isn't as clear if I'm not right against it. I'm not sure if this is a blue yeti thing, but I've seen others have their mic at around their chest area or a nice bit away from their face and it's more clear than mine is at that distance.

Microphone for Phone and Computer Use

Here is the issue I am trying to solve:

I work from home and game from home a fair amount too. I have three kids who will be home most of the summer in a small house.

I also tend to go and work at coffee shops, where I might get a random call or request for a ZOOM meeting, etc.

I've used a couple of headsets, including an over the ear Razer Barracuda X. The noise cancelling part of the mic isn't great. I'm just kinda tired of trying to figure out which headset has a good noise cancelling mic, while I don't really care at all about active noise cancellation within the music/sound itself. In other words, I want to be sure that clients and friends don't hear excessive background noise and I don't really care if I can hear my own kids/tv in the background.

I just bought a Razer Seiren V3 Mini which is a USB mic and headphones with a mic. Then I realize that the Seiren is USB only and doesn't work on my phone.

Are there good noise cancelling mics out there that are both USB and wireless?

Ideally under $80-$100 - which is more than I paid for the Seiren.

Buying comparision

I've been looking at two microphones currently (video shotgun mics)

(New to the world of microphones!)

I've been comparing Digitek DM-201 and Sennheiser MKE 200

The price difference is about 30 bucks, and both of them sound really similar on youtube reviews (Digitek having a slight hissing that can be reduced in post).

Is the MKE200 worth the extra 30 bucks? (Hey 30 bucks is a decent amount for a broke college student in my country-)

I'd be mainly using it for Interview setups (But the mic would be off-frame, say 4-5 feet from the subject at max)

Is a blue yeti still worth getting?

I'm thinking of getting it whenever I want to make videos, as long as it's decent and works alright, I won't mind

What is an usb microphone you would recommend under 100$ for voice overs?

Hi! I wanted to buy a k689 (ffine) but it got out of stuck. I decided to actually upper my budget a little bit but I am kinda of lost.
I am looking for an usb microphone under 100$. I understand that the quality won’t be exceptional but as a test, I don’t want something very expensive.
