Seeking Nootropic Stack / Supplement Stack Recommendations – Depression, Trauma & Brain Recovery
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for thoughtful suggestions on nootropics or supplements to help with these main goals:
• Repair brain function / increase BDNF (recover from brain damage caused by substance abuse and traumatic life events)
• Become more talkative and social
• Improve mental clarity and focus
• Enhance overall mood and motivation
Ideally something I can cycle, take daily, or use on demanding days when I need to be really “locked in” for work or important tasks.
My Background:
I’m a 24-year-old male who has struggled with depression for the past 5 years. My childhood was very traumatic (mental, physical, and sexual abuse). When I was 13, my father passed away. I always viewed him as my hero and the better parent. Last year, I discovered something about him that deeply traumatized me again — he was not the person I thought he was. Since that revelation, I feel like I’ve lost my spark.
I started taking SSRIs at age 17. I’ve tried several over the years. Zoloft worked the best for me, but after a long time on it I developed severe side effects — extreme facial sweating (it was like a fountain), which was especially embarrassing and anxiety-inducing during social events. I then switched to Lexapro, which I took for about a year. It felt too numbing and killed my drive/motivation. I just switched yesterday from Lexapro 20mg to Prozac 20mg because the previous medications eventually stopped working as well.
In my teens (ages 15–17) I went through a phase of heavy drug use, including lots of MDMA, cannabis, and alcohol. For the last few years I’ve been very focused on improving my physical and mental health and have made significant progress overall.
However, in the past few months I’ve occasionally used cocaine on weekends at raves.
Over the years I’ve tried several supplements such as Alpha-GPC, L-Tyrosine, and Lion’s Mane. They usually helped short-term but often led to a depressive rebound afterward, which I believe was caused by neurotransmitter imbalances.
I’m currently taking Semax. I’ve been thinking about trying Noopept, racetams, or certain peptides, but I’m not sure which would be the best fit.
What I’m ultimately looking for:
I want to feel like myself again. I hope to restore balance to my neurotransmitters (especially serotonin and dopamine) while using Prozac, regain my motivation and sociability, and support brain repair from past trauma and substance use.
I’d really appreciate any well-informed suggestions that consider my medication, trauma history, and past substance use.
