It's unironically his love language
This is an idea I've had for a while: what if Ryoga were to be distantly related to the Musk Dynasty? Or more generally, what if he isn't entirely human?
*Hear me out* :
Ryoga's got freakish stamina and strength, might even surpass Ranma when it comes to raw, brute strength; he's not like most of the cast, and while rereading Herb's arc, I couldn't help but notice a striking resemblance between him and Herb's boys, Lime in particular; even in the colored illustration his color schemes are almost identical, the lime eyes (pun intended) look the same too.
Now, unlike Mint, Lime and Herb, his ears and nose are 100% human, but there's a trait in particular that caught my attention: his fangs.
Ryoga's fangs are something I always found curious because unlike the bright colored hair, which are there as a mere stylization choice and never acknowledged, his fangs *are* acknowledged and even used by Ranma as a way to prove a blood relation between them in his ruse (slide 3). But have you ever thought of how or why a supposedly 100% human characters has them? Numerous characters in Takahashi's works have fangs, but all of them are either demons (Inuyasha) or aliens (Urusei Yatsura), none of them is human.
A fun fact: "fang" is literally in Ryoga's name as well. The name Ryōga (良牙) is an union between the kanjis 良 and 牙(fang/tusk). In fact, if anyone's familiar with Inuyasha, the character Kōga(鋼牙)'s name sounds nearly the same as Ryōga(良牙) because they share the last kanji 牙 (fang), but Koga is a wolf Yokai, it makes sense for him to have them. Ryōga, not so much.
The fact the we never see either of his parents due to the gag of the Hibiki's family being eternally lost doesn't help this curiousity of mine :')
Obviously, this is an elaborated theory/speculation of mine, I am not saying all this to claim "yo this is canon"; it's not, but I find it to be an interesting possibility.
Shadow-like silhouette + blank/bright eyes = introduction of a fire character and arc
The dates in question: Nodoka and her katana, Tofu and Betty. Everyone else just vibing (primarily Soun)
It might sound silly to some, but I am indeed 100% serious when I say that knowing that I will be seeing these bundles of sunshine and joy animated made my mood skyrocket.
What can I say? I'm a simple person: I see puppies, day made.
Warning: cuteness overload
100% certain she's taken at least 5 years out of her and Ranma's lifespans with each visit 'cause homegirl had them fighting for their life anytime she was around 💀
If I had a cent for every time Akane >!got stuck in a doll's body against her will!< I'd have 2 cents, which isn't a lot but it's crazy it happened twice.
I think one of my favorite things whenever Nodoka pops up is Akane and Nabiki going psst psst commenting/judging them in a corner lol
I was rereading the Tanabata story (since it's in a few days in Japan) and surprisingly I never noticed the tanzakus on Hinako's bamboo branch, I guess the infatuation with Soun didn't subside after all XD
The manga, candy and toys ones though? Same
The trailer is stacked with stunning and colorful peeks, but these are my personal highlights. I love the way the panels are brought to life so faithfully and beautifully while still adding the colorful fluidity that comes with animation.
I really like how everyone looks, I especially like Tsubasa's vibrant color scheme and Sentaro's design, but overall my most favorite thing is how colorful and expressive they all look, mappa truly captured their essence so well!
For those who have read the manga, we know these characters are>!comedic one-offs!<, but they bring a good time during their >!brief!< stay nonetheless.
Which of these is your favorite in terms of the design and colors chosen for the anime?
I always get whiplash (complimentary) whenever I see them talk because I *see* grown people but all I hear is their 16 years old characters chatting and giggling XD
I can't wait for what's about to be unveiled this Friday during Mappa's stream for its 15th anniversary and to see the full thing as well (and see if I can try to translate too)
One of my favorite details about the manga is the amount of stylish outfits in it, especially Akane's, Takahashi's sense of fashion in that era is great and seeing the anime bring all of them to life with beautiful color palettes, even those worn for like 1/2 panels, is something I love to see.
These are only some of my favorites that appeared (so far), do you have a favorite between these?
Ranma is among the projects on the lineup to reveal new information in honour of the studio's 15th anniversary, the stream will take place on June 19th on MAPPA's YouTube Channel, which 100% means S3 info.
The stream includes a program with new information and a special segment featuring the cast, which for Ranma½ will be: Kappei Yamaguchi (Ranma Saotome ♂️), Noriko Hidaka (Akane Tendo) and Kōichi Yamadera (Ryoga Hibiki).
The anniversary section on the website also mentions exhibitions and newly drawn merchandise for later on, hopefully Ranma will be included there as well.
So I was rereading the translation of the character profiles from the fanbook and I find the answer and comment she gave here interesting.
How do you interpret that part about the "more hot blooded, energetic shonen character compared to Ranma" ? I have my theories, but I am curious to see your takes.
Anytime I reread the manga and reach these parts, I can't help but always think of Mulan's grandma XD
