39 and our first pregnancy
My SO and I have been dating for a year and a half now, marriage plans on the horizon, but decided to 'wing it' and try for a baby before time got the best of us. We started trying a couple of months ago, and on my 39th birthday last week, I got a positive test and a stronger line a couple of days later! I feel lucky in a lot of ways. Most people at my age have so many troubles and it seems too good to be true.
I would be 4wks+1 today, and there are plenty of signs. Nipple soreness, a appetite that rivals an army (I am obsessed with shelled peanuts), fatigue, and my mothers dog who normally wants nothing to do with me, hovering over me and planting himself by the door wherever I'm sitting. I have no nausea, no spotting, everything seems to be on the right track, if I'm listening to my body correctly.
We're both scrambling to get things together as we were not expecting things to happen so quickly. I bartend for a living and have no insurance, so I need to work on getting Medicaid asap and get myself into a clinic or OB to get testing done. But right now, I'm looking on any advice on where to go from here or what I should be doing. I've cut out all my bad habits, no caffeine, no alcohol, and Im trying my best to wean myself off nicotine within the next couple of days. No over the counter medication, no raw fish, no cold cuts. Sticking to seltzer water and limiting sugar. Healthier diet, proteins and vegetables. I've went and grabbed prenatal supplements and have been taking them for two days now. I'm trying to take it easy at work, avoiding stress and the hardest parts of physical labor my job requires.
Any advice and encouragement would be welcome here.
