215: Radiohead - In Rainbows (plus swipe for (Un)Related)

Another day another amazing Radiohead album (I had Kid A recently). This is my copy of the special edition vinyl which I was kindly gifted for some volunteer work I did around the time.

I’m not going to make today’s (Un)Related a quiz cos it’s just far too obscure, but when I was reading the In Rainbows wiki I noticed that the first recordings were not with Nigel Godrich because he was busy with Charlotte Gainsborough and Beck at the time, which gives me an excuse to share this amazing Gainsborough album produced by Beck. So that’s my (un)related link to today’s 1001 AotD.

213: The Velvet Underground & Nico (plus swipe for today’s (Un)Related quiz)

It’s not a roll, but the generator is being very good to me atm. VU&N was probably within the first 30 albums I ever owned and it’s one of very few I have more than one copy of (I finally gave in when I saw this beautiful reissue bargain having put up with my non-gatefold super thin copy all those years)

(Un)Related is a record seemingly unrelated to the 1001 AotD but linked somehow. Today’s Rockbird by Debbie Harry could probably be linked to VU&N in many ways but I’m just looking for the most glaringly obvious one. Answer in comments.

212: The Cardigans - First Band on the Moon (also swipe for (Un)Related of the day)

When this Cardigans album came out, I was obsessed with it for a long time. I will enjoy reviewing this one. I’m particularly keen on the drumming!!
(Un)Related is where I pick a record (or records) that may seem unrelated but have a link to the 1001 AotD. I often make it a quiz, but the link is so obvious it would be an insult to call it a challenge. What is interesting though is how diverse the albums can be Sun Ra (avant-garde jazz) McCartney (pop rock) Eno (ambient) Blood Incantation (death metal). I guess it’s truly a universal theme. I’m guessing I could have found a lot more examples, these were just the first ones I thought of.

208: The Coral - s/t debut. (also swipe for today’s (Un)Related quiz)

Magnificently distinctive yet diverse debut from the Wirral wonders. (Un)Related is a record or records that seem unrelated to my 1001 AotD but are linked somehow. Today, what do these have in common with The Coral? AC/DC, Allmans, Bangles, Beach Boys, E,W&F, Field Music, INXS, The Knife, Lemon Twigs. I could have included so many more too. Easy? Answer in comments somewhere.

204: The Faces get me rocking on a Saturday morning. (swipe for my (Un)Related quiz)

(Un)Related is a record that seems unrelated to the 1001 AotD but has a link somehow. What have this Faces album and this Jacksons album got in common? Answer hidden in a comment.

I’m not a huge Deadhead, but this is one of the few albums I own. (Un)Related is a record seemingly unrelated to the 1001 album of the day, but linked somehow. Not even going to bother making this a quiz because there are lots of links but Miles Davis’ Live/Evil might actually be my #1 Miles album so, since it’s not one of his 4x1001 entries, I’m keen to spotlight it for anyone unlikely to come across it otherwise. If you find Bitches Brew to be impenetrable, uninhibited and wild, you might want to stay away from Live/Evil, but if those descriptors sound like positives L/E is a great next step.

Classic “every home should have one” album from Carole King, but what is the connection to two 90s (and beyond) UK indie bands Gallon Drunk and Tindersticks? (Un)Related is a record or records seemingly unrelated to the 1001 AotD but linked somehow. Spoiler-hidden answer is in the comments.

This Isaac album might just be my favourite of his. (Un)Related is a bonus album to the 1001 AotD that may seem unrelated but is linked somehow. Can you tell why I’ve chosen Big Star? My answer is in a comment cos I don’t seem to be able to do the spoiler coverup thing in this bodytext section.

(Un)Related is an album seemingly unrelated to the 1001 AotD but linked somehow. I feel today’s link to GET THE knack is quite an easy one, but I might be wrong. Answer in first comment.
