Dealership giving me the runaround on canceling a $900 tire/wheel warranty (AG Vehicle Shield). Are they lying to me?
Hi everyone,
I recently financed a new car from Great Lakes Columbus. During finance, they talked me into adding the AG Vehicle Shield (tire and wheel protection) for $900. At the time, I thought it sounded like a decent safety net, so I agreed to roll it into the loan.
After getting home, I googled the warranty company and found terrible reviews saying they are a nightmare to deal with and rarely approve claims. I immediately decided to cancel it within my 30-day window, but the dealership is giving me a massive runaround:
- I emailed and called both finance managers. I was either ignored entirely or given empty promises to "look into it" with no follow-up.
- I finally went down to the dealership in person today. One manager told another employee to "cancel it over the weekend" and claimed it would take 2 to 8 weeks to show up on my bank statement.
My gut says she is lying to stall me out of my cancellation window. The dealership has great reviews overall, but this sketchiness is a massive red flag.
My questions:
- Are they just stalling so they don't lose their commission?
- What can I do right now to force them to process this and give me proof?
- Does a refund actually take 2–8 weeks to show up on a financed loan?
Appreciate any advice!
Update: Thanks for the advice on my last post. Things just got even worse, but I might finally be making headway.
I decided to bypass the dealership and call the warranty company (AG Vehicle Shield) directly to see if the cancellation was actually pending. They told me they have absolutely no record of a cancellation request from the dealership. The finance manager completely lied to my face when she said it would be processed "over the weekend". After finding that out, I immediately bypassed the finance team and emailed an escalation directly to the General Sales Manager, exposing the finance team's behavior and the fact that the warranty provider has received nothing. I just got a response back—I think it was his secretary/assistant reaching out on his behalf—stating that they are actively working on the issue right now and will keep me updated.
