GHSV-1 disclosure

Hi, I was diagnosed with Genital herpes simplex virus type 1 over 5 years ago. It was contracted during my long-term relationship with my ex-partner, who has Oral herpes simplex virus type 1. I remember the phone call from my doctor all that time ago and thinking my life was over. Then poof, nearly 6 years later, and I haven’t had an outbreak since. My relationship is over, and I literally forgot I even had Genital herpes simplex virus type 1.
Now I’m back in the dating scene, and I feel like the stigma around this virus is so extreme. I have had successful disclosures even one where the person responded, “Hey, I get cold sores too,” which, statistically speaking, is incredibly common.
I can’t believe the shame I felt before having to disclose. It just seems so unfair.
How is everyone going with their HSV 1 diagnosis and are we breaking down the stigma by talking about it with people?
