Vinyl with a little bit of noise (maybe not a little bit)

Hi! Today I wanted to show you this record by Freddie Hubbard and Ilhan Mimaroglu: Sing Me A Song Of Songmy. Jazz, musique concrète, experimental. Absolutely insane.

I got it at a record fair on the seller’s recommendation. Side A sounds spectacular, but Side B has this sound throughout the entire side that sounds like a brush (you can hear it in the video).

I tried cleaning it in a thousand different ways, but I couldn’t get rid of it. I wanted to know if anyone has any idea what could be causing this noise, since it’s constant, cyclical, and rhythmic. At one point I even started thinking it was actually part of the music.

P.S. In case anyone is interested, this is an Argentine edition from 1976: https://www.discogs.com/es/release/12103223-Freddie-Hubbard-Ilhan-Mimaroglu-Sing-Me-A-Song-Of-Songmy

Joy Division - Closer / bootleg

This was my first vinyl record, Joy Division’s second album. I bought it brand new, still sealed. I didn’t have a turntable at the time, so I only listened to it once on a very poor-quality stereo system.

Four years later, I bought my first turntable, and something strange happened. The record was still absolutely pristine, but it sounded like a VG- or G-condition vintage record. I cleaned it several times (with a brush, isopropyl alcohol, even dish soap), but it didn’t improve.

Around the same time, I discovered Discogs, and I couldn’t find the exact edition of the record because it didn’t have any information such as a matrix number or barcode.

Eventually, I came across it: a bootleg edition, very well made aesthetically. You can even see how poorly cut the sticker is. This leads me to think that the original sound actually comes from a poorly preserved vintage record that was used as the source.

Nowadays, I listen to it and find the whole thing amusing. It’s even become a little treasure in my collection. Just a funny story for my first vinyl record, I guess.

I believe this is the edition of the record I have. If anyone can help me verify it, I’d really appreciate it: https://www.discogs.com/es/release/9351524-Joy-Division-Closer

My Bloody Valentine - This Is Your Bloody Valentine

The debut release from the band that would later become a shoegaze legend. In this case, it's a mini-album, with a sound much closer to The Birthday Party or Bauhaus than the music they would eventually become famous for.

Honestly, I like it quite a bit, even though Kevin Shields seems to have tried to bury it by never reissuing it. The only comment I’ve found from him about this record is: 'we've got a mini-LP we made in Berlin in '84, pre-Mary Chain [...] with all our traits there—feedback thrash.'

The only review I’ve found describes it as: 'an unfocused and derivative collection of post-punk goth rock'.

I managed to get a 2023 Spanish 45 rpm bootleg, and to my ears, it sounds pretty good, though I don't have an original pressing to compare it to.

What do you guys think of this release?

The Stooges

I just bought this 2021 Argentine pressing on Marketplace for $6 USD. These kinds of editions usually sell for $26–39 USD here. It was brand new and still sealed—an absolute steal! And it sounds fantastic.

I just had to share my excitement with someone who would understand. 😄

Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

¡Hola!

Primal Scream - Live At Levitation

I want to share my latest acquisition: a live record by Primal Scream — Live At Levitation, part of Ten Bands One Cause. I'm not a fan of buying live albums, but I am a huge Primal Scream fan, and in Argentina they're hard to come by. I found this one at a good price and it turned out to be the limited edition Pink Swirl vinyl. I understand only 500 units were made.

It's a good record — psychedelic and powerful, although our dear Bobby Gillespie talks more than he sings a lot of the time. The master sounded low in volume to me; I had to EQ it quite a bit to feel any power and bass (I listen to vinyl through my monitors, almost always pretty flat). What did you all think of it?

P.S. This is my first post on Reddit — I've never used it before, I hope I'm doing this right. I always wanted to have a YouTube channel where I talk about my records, but I thought this was a good start, chatting with people here, since I don't really have anyone to share this hobby with.
