Omega Satoru who miscarries seven months in because the six eyes somehow perceive his baby as a threat.
Suguru comes home from a late mission to find him in the bathroom on the floor, head hanging low and clutching his stomach as blood pools the tiles beneath him.
He feels cold, he knows what it is, yet he doesn’t want to face it. The scent of his unborn child is gone, replaced with the bitter sourness of his mate’s pheromones.
“Satoru..?” he whispers, just loud enough so that he could be heard.
Satoru doesn’t look up, nor does he acknowledge his presence. He continues to cradle where his womb once held their promise, what tied them together other than the bite mark on his nape.
“Satoru, talk to me,” Suguru pleads, rushing further in and crouching behind him.
He can see himself in the red reflection, wincing and ignoring the pain it brings on. He has to be there for his omega, there is no time to show weakness in a moment like this. Gingerly, he wraps his arms around Satoru’s shoulders. He waits, he is patient with his love.
“I don’t understand. I did everything right,” Satoru laments, throat dry from a broken voice. It was clear he had been crying, grieving over his body’s choice to betray him. “This doesn’t make any-” he grits his teeth. “I’m supposed to be the strongest, how could I let this happen?”
Finally, he raises his head, and Suguru pushes his bangs out of his eyes. He’s streaming tears, and his scleras are pink with strain. He chokes as he blames himself, “How could I kill our baby?”
Suguru’s pupils constrict, and he pulls in Satoru his chest. He kneels in the blood, and its stain crawls up his uniform pants.
“You didn’t do *anything.* Don’t you ever say that again. We’ll figure out what went wrong together.” He pets his back, rubbing up and down. “It’s late. First thing in the morning, we’ll go see Shoko at the college, I want to make sure you’re okay.”
“I’m not-” Satoru sobs. “I’m not okay.”
Suguru hushes him gently, raising a wrist to rub against his neck, releasing pheromones in an attempt to calm him. It doesn’t help much. Satoru continues to mumble to himself between wet sniffles, repeating sorrows along the lines of *”it’s my fault” “I killed her”* and other mourns of that grade.
And as Suguru does his best to stay strong, he can’t help the tears that trickle down as he peers out the open door. Across the hall his eyes water at the room with a newly assembled crib, cursed dolls to activate for play, and an open closet of little kimonos in pink for an expected birth in the spring.
