Can history reach a stage from which future events are predictable?

Many have asked themselves that over the centuries, and as the Twilight Struggle carries on, it does so with a waning intensity. Within Third Internationale leadership, the thought has prevailed that a total world revolution will have to be delayed until their ideological enemy, the Moscow Accord, inevitably collapses. This has not been a visible trend. In fact, the Accord’s economies are stronger than ever, whilst the constant ideological threat has driven an unending spree of reforms that have created vast welfare states and high living standards, though within the framework of market economies. With such progress, states inevitably search for ways to save on expenses, with the idea of privatisation and supply-side economics finding increased leeway in the Accord.

On the other side of the Iron Curtain, ideological divisions have begun to fester. Some in the Union of Socialist American Syndicates have begun to doubt whether their unceasing support for their European allies is still necessary, when France and Germany have practically reconciled by founding the European Community with Italy and Britain. Iberia has reaffirmed its anarchist roots during the last year’s constitutional crisis, and Britain has begun to reconnect with its old colonies, now republics free of the monarchy and the House of Windsor.

In South America, social democracy finds itself having a resurgence, whilst the veritable patchwork of African states can finally breathe a sigh of relief with the bloody end to apartheid in South Africa. This recent success has spurred on a renaissance of pan-Africanism, with hopes being rife that perhaps the time for an African Union might have finally arrived.

Asia is at peace. Though the bloody Thai Civil War ended over five years ago, the country is still knee-deep in poverty whilst politically and economically divided. At the very least, Japan, China and Korea get along.

With a new millennium dawning, many wonder if the Russo-American Mars landing, the rise of the digital Knowledge Hub, and the threat of climate change can galvanise the two sides of the Twilight Struggle into further cooperation and begin an age of peaceful coexistence and progress. Whether history has reached its end or further changes are to be expected remains to be seen. One thing is certain, though.

A new millennium dawns, and with it new challenges and opportunities. Few could imagine the world being any differently than what they know."

======================================================================

That was that. If you genuinely looked at each post and went through this timeline as intended, then I thank you for your attention. I created this across several months. There might be some inconsistencies and I took some liberties here and there, but I hope this provided an interesting World War 2 and Cold War timeline!

My Headcanon Kaiserredux Timeline - Part 14: Blue Dusk

https://preview.redd.it/mckezaqk4b2h1.png?width=5192&format=png&auto=webp&s=00d85eb8d7169e70e42164124d052943b6e0aba5

With the 1980s having begun, the Twilight Struggle has turned decisively in favour of the Third Internationale. Though the Moscow Accord has remained stable and cohesive, with increased free trade and fewer barriers between countries, the Entente has finally met its end.

The death of Edward VIII in 1972 already left Australia, heavily centralised under his rule, without a strong figure to keep whatever weak democratic institutions there still were in check. The Labour Party achieved a supermajority in the 1978 election; however, the military and aristocracy rejected the results and opted to dissolve parliament. The results were immediate: a general strike that quickly spiralled into the complete takeover of Western Australia by trade unions and Labour leaders, increasingly radicalised by decades of oppression.

After almost a year, the tense standoff ended in conflict: in 1979 the military opened fire and a civil war erupted. Amidst this chaos, the last remaining members of the Australasian Confederation declared independence, with New Zealand even declaring a republic. Now Australia is a battlefield. Though fighting so far has been in favour of Canberra, Internationale support may tip the scales, as it has in Antarctica, where the Internationale has undoubtedly become the dominant power.

South Africa too is close to collapse. Decades of sanctions and civil war have reached a point at which apartheid will soon buckle under its own weight, with open rebellion being common and even white South Africans increasingly upset at their own government.

In stark contrast, the Internationale has welcomed new allies and secured the once staunchly anti-syndicalist Middle East as a gigantic ally to the south. Only Chile has seen a serious loss in the Chilean–Argentine War, with much land being lost as well as Chilean democracy being replaced by a totalist emergency government.

My Headcanon Kaiserredux Timeline - Part 13.5: A Look at Germany

https://preview.redd.it/h8dljcxx3b2h1.png?width=1321&format=png&auto=webp&s=43a4ee16ad78d58a78d4a814496c0a2210f60974

It is 1972 and Germany is still entangled in the Twilight Struggle, but long behind are now the days of reconstruction from the Second Weltkrieg, with stable economies having been established and food rationing an increasingly distant memory.

Even as large parts of the world are aflame in civil wars supported by either side of the icy ideological struggle perpetuated throughout the world, Germany has continued its gradual climb to prominence on both sides.

In the eastern bloc, the German Empire has become one of the most formidable industrial economies, further greatly bolstered by the early influx of industrialists and bourgeoisie fleeing the syndicalists in the west, something that has now paid off as numerous firms now have their seat in East Germany and greatly contribute to one of the most diversified economies in the Moscow Accord.

The political structure of the German Empire has also gained more widespread acceptance within the populace, as the market economy is increasingly legitimised and Prussian militarism justified. Just this year, the SPD-led government has even re-legalised trade unions so as to stem the tide of strikes and offer an avenue of compromise to workers.

The most problematic avenue for the German Empire, though, has been Accord politicking. Even though all members are united through a common sense of purpose in defending market capitalism, nationalist tensions recently culminated in the Hungarian Crisis that necessitated Russian intervention, a matter that almost led to Poland's exit from the Accord. Even Berlin has not been content with being Russia’s lapdog, with the giant struggling to reconcile democracy and implicit subservience to Russian interests.

The recent reveal of its nuclear programme has only further increased tensions within the Accord.

On the other side of the Elbe, the German Socialist Republic has seen a number of anarcho-syndicalist regimes come and go, some more successful than others. Its ideological stance has brought it into quarrel with other Third Internationale members over preferential treatment by the Union of Socialist American Syndicates, in particular the non-civilian nuclear programme, which both France and Britain vehemently disapproved of. On the economic side, the western European economies have become gradually more integrated, with border controls on both tourists and goods lessened and ideas of a common currency floated, though these have not found much success due chiefly to the French and the British.

West Germany has become one of the world's most powerful economies, though with not as much influence as during the imperial era; many older people are nostalgic for this, resulting in the highest standard of living in Europe and much ability for same-language technical exchange programmes into all parts of the world thanks to lasting German influence.

The continents around Europe burn in the flames of civil unrest, and the sides of the Twilight Struggle go to the aid of whomever appeals to them the most. Unpopularity of recent interventions in Africa and the Middle East has quenched the possibility of returning German militarism, red as it may be, whilst in the east it is as gilded as ever.

The now stagnating economies of western Europe have created a climate in which counter-culture flourishes; the type to idealise a long-thought-banished past: that of Wilhelm II and the German Empire. What West Germany can take from this remains to be seen...

My Headcanon Kaiserredux Timeline - Part 13: Crisis

https://preview.redd.it/v0mlovc12b2h1.png?width=1691&format=png&auto=webp&s=e53a13588a3ef0c422f673989fbfcc3196538f2b

As the Twilight Struggle drags on the world remains divided, but unlike the 60s the 1970s have turned out to be a far darker decade. The decade-long economic growth has halted in its tracks, with stagnation having set in across almost the entire planet.

Though the shackles of colonialism have at last been shattered by blood alone, whites young and old have manned the guns in South Africa as the war against the Pan-African Congress is ever escalating further. The Apartheid regime has shown only a further tightening of its oppressive laws, with its only international benefactor the Australasian Confederation.
Portugal's colonial empire meanwhile has finally passed into the dustbin of history, with the only thing remaining of its once global hold being a few scattered island domains and a government-in-exile hosted in Canberra.

But as one state falls another rises, with the Mali Federation having grown to encompass much of the Sahel, unifying the many weak statelets into a force to be reckoned with. Combined with Internationale support, its economic prospects in this dark decade are surprisingly lofty.

The Middle East’s peace has, however, been shattered. With Pan-Arabism having taken full hold of Syria, Egypt, Libya and Yemen, a war has erupted between them and Hashemite Arabia, in desperate hopes of stopping the tide of Pan-Arabism. This has developed into one of many theatres in which the Twilight Struggle is carried out with increasing intensity.

South America has also been rattled, with a minor dispute over some islands escalating into a full war between Chile and Argentina, with the alignments of each side being clear as day. The Internationale has thus far shown itself unwilling to support Chile, even with the threat of counter-revolutionary uprisings within the country.

Even the Moscow Accord has not been left unchanged by the world around it. Russia, after intense back-and-forths and seriously crippling riots in its periphery, had to reform into a more federalised republic. Though detested by nationalists, this change has only strengthened the eastern giant.

But that strength doesn’t always translate into loyalty from the Moscow Accord members. Hungary in particular attempted to seize parts of Transylvania, with the speed of the operation, so it was hoped, leading to Russia elevating Hungary in the Moscow Accord structure.

The response was entirely different, with a military intervention following and territorial reparations to the surrounding countries, most egregiously Czechoslovakia, which gained considerable amounts of land.

The dying man of Europe, the Ottoman Empire, might at last be drawing its last breath, embroiled in civil war and ethnic violence. Against Moscow’s own policies, Greece used the spiralling situation to its advantage to at last realise the Megali Idea whilst pro-Sultan and anti-Sultan groups tear the old empire apart. Russia too has used the chance to flex its muscle, seizing the regions of Pontic Greeks for the sake of protecting minorities and claiming Constantinople as an international mandate.

Greece for its part has been put under sanctions by Russia for its needless aggression in the Ottoman Empire, a matter which the economically stagnant but at the very least cohesive Third Internationale recognises as just another case of capitalistic infighting.

With violence engulfing the world but technological progress remaining a constant, it is yet to be seen whether perhaps the 80s might be the beginning of something better...

It is 1962 and the Twilight Struggle carries on with ever more pressure.

Even though the world teeters on the brink of nuclear annihilation with the German Empire having also attained nuclear weapons, the German Socialist Republic is now scrambling to assemble its own nuclear programme. Tensions are plentiful; from the anti-colonial movements tearing apart the last holdouts of the Portuguese Empire and the recently coup’d state of Rhodesia, now ruled by white supremacists, to the Malacca Straits and the endless provocations by the Indonesian Navy against syndicalist Malaya. Of course, the greatest hotbed is Europe itself. Though reconstruction from the Second Weltkrieg is still ongoing, the lust for power and paranoia of ideological struggle have given a new meaning to the Twilight Struggle.

Even Antarctica has become a breeding ground of tensions, with negotiations for an Antarctic Treaty suspended in favour of the militarisation of the continent.

Yet despite this geopolitical deadlock, remarkable societal and economic progress is being achieved in almost every part of the world. In the USAS, same-sex marriage has finally become recognised by the greater Union, whilst similar movements gain renown in Europe with the rediscovery and mass publication of sexology research from 1930s and 40s Berlin.

More people than ever before have ascended from poverty thanks to vast social programmes, public works projects and societal initiatives across both Moscow Accord and Third International states.

The states most devastated by the Second Weltkrieg are experiencing great growth in their economic prowess, with both Germany and Japan superseding their former rivals in economic might.

Even in historically troublesome East Asia, the omnipresent Twilight Struggle has done little to impede the rise of impoverished and devastated countries to prominence. Korea and China have successfully called in reparations for war crimes committed during the Second Weltkrieg in Asia, as well as several high-profile public apologies.
the same time, across both sides of the East China Sea, women’s rights are not merely talk anymore, but increasingly a reality.

Nuclear power has revolutionised the energy grid and commercial shipping. A seemingly never-ending rise in productivity has begun to positively reduce working hours in the western world, though both Asia and the Moscow Accord still heavily lag behind in that regard. Now it seems decades of toil by the working class will finally pay off.

And of course, space - the final frontier - is also being pierced. With the Phalanstère Internationale mobilising enormous dispositive production factors, i.e. human ingenuity, the first man is about to be launched into space from Cape Canaveral. These two lucky humans carry the hopes and dreams of all mankind with them in pursuit of a more peaceful future...

Following the end of the Second Weltkrieg, gradually, things have fallen into place in the new world order. Across Europe, the largest reconstruction effort in history has begun, as once-sworn enemies Germany and France cooperate in assisting each other's recovery from the deadliest war in human history. Aid by the United States is limited, though, for as much as they contributed to Germany's defeat, they have not only their own country to rebuild, but also the millions of soldiers returning to a changed, more industrialised and militarised America, and of course those islands which they forcefully painted red: Japan.

Japan is struggling with reconstruction, with much of the population having fallen into poverty, not to mention the ever-present threat of famine or worse, Showa sympathisers.

Eastern Europe, though no less scarred by the wounds of the Weltkrieg, is seeing a far more rapid recovery than previously thought, with economic growth already being rapidly achieved in Poland, East Germany and the Baltics. Russia proper, of course, has been practically thriving since its victory and is now the undisputed defender of capitalism. Menshevism still has a strong hold on politics, and with a powerful economy it is not unlikely that the RSDRP will remain in power for the next two legislative periods at the very least. Fear of Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians of Russia repealing their newfound independence are also fading as it has become clear that the giant has everything it needs - naval bases, trade routes amongst others - without any of the drawbacks that incorporating the Baltics would bring.

Asia is reeling from the Japanese rape of their lands, with talks having arisen for a common economic and political union in South East Asia, with the dual purpose of assisting recovery and opposing syndicalism as it emanates from China, Laos and Vietnam.

Much of Africa is still rebuilding from the aftermath of Mittelafrika's collapse, but the first tenuous steps towards gradual growth, detached from their colonial past, have been taken. Even though it has to battle instability, the Congo has seen remarkable economic growth, and Azania is seeking membership in the Fourth Internationale.

It is the year 1950, and Emperor Hirohito, in a hidden bunker in Sapporo, has just instructed the remaining General Staff to issue an unconditional surrender.

The Imperial Japanese Army, worn down after one and a half years of fighting on the home islands, has at last been forced to recognize that - between the nuclear bombings of Osaka, Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Niigata, the loss of millions of civilians, and the complete disintegration of the Sphere - it is now imperative to yield to the will of the American giant they had underestimated for so long. This has come at immense cost to the American military, with the Pacific War having produced an endless number of widowed wives and motherless sons.

Whilst Europe is still reeling from the Weltkrieg, with Russia mopping up partisan movements and consolidating its position as the premier anti-syndicalist superpower, and the Internationale bringing Albania into its fold, Asia is still burning.

Japan lost Korea a year ago, replaced by a council republic supported by the Chinese. Southeast Asia has erupted into open revolt, with the Indonesian National Revolution declared by Sukarno, and the Philippines proclaiming their separation from the Co-Prosperity Sphere in search of a separate peace with the USAS. Siam, too, has done the same.

Australasia has been under a prolonged state of emergency even after signing a peace agreement with Japan over two years ago. Parliaments have been dissolved, elections postponed indefinitely, and freedom of assembly swept aside in favor of rule by decree.

The future of Asia is marred by uncertainty and its scars run deep, but with Japan’s surrender imminent, perhaps peace may yet return to a continent that has suffered more than any other.

After over six years of war, Europe finally sees peace. Germany is devastated, with the surrender coming after the capture of Danzig and Cologne by opposing forces. The Kaiser officially abdicated shortly before the surrender was broadcast.

In the east, the German Empire has been preserved, though with an heavily amended constitution so as to avoid greater instability. In the west, a temporary occupation authority has been established to oversee the formation of a revolutionary German government.

Though the Tilsit Agreement has established a new Europe divided between two powers out of the necessity of avoiding a continuation war, the newly annexed territories in Russia are haunted by partisan movements.

In Asia, the Chinese have continued their advance, recapturing Shanghai on the 12th of October, 1946, after decades of occupation by foreign powers. They have also liquidated the Government of National Salvation in Beijing and are threatening to seize Macau and Hong Kong.

The naval war, in contrast, still favors Japan, with the production of many new warships nearing completion, even as nearly the entirety of the Second Continental Navy has entered the Pacific and American troops have barrelled down both the Midway and Marquesas Islands. These successes have, of course, led Japan to further fortify the atolls and islands captured in previous years, in hopes of inflicting such mortifying losses that the American syndicates would surely be forced to back off.

Alas, they do not know what advances the capture of German scientists and nuclear reactors in Thuringia have brought to the Internationale. Soon, the power of the atom will be in the hands of humanity - for better or worse.

It is 1945, and the Germans are not ready for the new world order. The war has decisively turned against the Reichspakts favor. Following the success of Operation Torch in North Africa, the capture of Algiers, and the suicide of Philippe Pétain, both Entente powers signed the Treaty of Cape Town - a treaty forcing the recognition of the revolutionary governments on their former soil, the dissolution of the French National State, and, of course, peace between Australasia and the Third Internationale.

With Russia’s advance threatening to overwhelm “Fortress Königsberg,” and the Polish armies defending their homeland on the brink of collapse while their German allies struggle to hold against the Menshevist threat, it is clear that this struggle will soon come to an end.

While strikes and protests are wrecking Germany, and the Rhineland itself has come under occupation, Kurt von Schleicher and a number of military officials have dissolved parliament and are now gearing up for a heroic final stand against the Internationale - all while secretly negotiating a separate peace with Russia. Small business owners, Junkers, farmers, and even ordinary civilians are fleeing eastward, fearing French vengeance and mass expropriation.

In the east, Australasia continues its desperate fight against Japan, while China increasingly transitions its defensive war into a series of offensives.

Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands alone have not sated the American desire for revolution, however, as plans are being drawn up for a protracted war against Japan - with the final goal of seeing the red flag flying over Tokyo.

By the end of 1944 it has become very much appearent who will be the loser of this war beyond the citizenry of every country: Germany.

Though the Second Kaiserschlacht was quite coup de grace for Russia, the truth of it was that it didn't achieve the intended collapse of Russia with it only serving to delay what might have been inevitable from the moment the Russian Republic joined the war. German forces are now in process of being rapidly pushed back with no signs of where there might again a stable frontline be formed.
On the western front Internationale Forces have successfully pushed the Heer out of much of France whilst an Italian campaign is in the works.

If that wasn't enough by December Operation Torch has been launched, which intends to cut the head of the Entente snake and defeat the Algiers Government after which the Entente would have no choice but to surrender.

Furthermore the piecemeal attempts at negotiations with the Empire of Japan over the Aleutian Islands and Hawaii failed in June. Now by summer American troops have landed on the Hawaiian islands whilst gradually ships are moved from Europe; where much of the naval war has already been decided; into the Pacific.

Japan overambition has also resulted in it tasting its first fruits of victory: Germany signed the Treaty of Rangoon in which it turns over all Pacific and south east Asian colonial possessions, a state of affairs which further put the Australasian Confederation under pressure.

Despite these victories, however, prospects in China are increasingly grim for Japan and right KMT-led Government of National Salvation with the Chinese United Front succeeding in ever more counter offensives.

By the end of 1943 it still hasn't become clear who the real victor of this war shall be.

The Zweite Kaiserschlacht didnt bring the intended breakdown of the Russian state and army, with much of the russian armed forces' strength being preserved thanks to organized retreats. Although Germany has now retaken much of their eastern allies territory, it is in the astonishing position of having inflicted minimal losses upon the Russian giant, who is surely preparing for a counter attack soon.

Despite this Romania decided to join the war on the german side, seeing as from their perspective Germany has proven the ability to successfully counter Russia and thus protect Romanian interests.

The Internationale is in the most difficult position of all powers. Although the American entry led to the swift dismantling of Canada only by now have american soldiers amassed in France to hold further german advances. It is unclear if american assistance can help turn the tide against Germany with Italy being close to capitulation and France having long lost Paris.

the east meanwhile the Chinese United Front managed to succesfully counter-attack and achieve astonishing successes in retaking Nanjing. Now the chinese government is in a position to threaten even Shanghai, giving much to hope to a war effort thought doomed.

Japan is increasingly secure thanks to great successes in the Papua and Solomon Islands campaign against the Australasian Confederation. Though the British Crown and many forces from Canada fled to Australia it is unlikely they alone will be able to hold the japanese advance for long.

It will need anothers intervention, though if said countries assistance in the war against Japan is in their interest is questionable at best...

My Headcanon Kaiserredux Timeline - Part 5: Arsenal of the Working Class

It is the end of 1942, and just as the clock struck midnight and people cautiously celebrate the dawning of a new year, bombs fall on Montreal, Ottawa and 'Fortress' Vancouver and the cities of the West Indies. Whilst fireworks explode, so do the bullets of countless artillery pieces flying across the Canadian border.

With a true bang, the USAS has begun its intervention in the Second Weltkrieg. With over two million troops crossing the border and total air superiority even the most optimistic of Entente planners predict the fall of Canada to occur in less than two months.

Elsewhere the Empire of Japan has attained a stranglehold on the East Indies and german colonies whilst hopping from island to island in the deep pacific.

Following the mildly succesful Summer Offensive by Russia the Germans have now devised a bold counter-attack which, it is, hoped may bring a quick victory in the east at the same as german soldiers advance in the french countryside. The OHL and Emperor Wilhelm III. know full well that they have attain decisive victories on both fronts fast, if they want to stand any chance of defending against the 'Arsenal of the Working Class.'

In addition both Germany and Russia have been jockeying for the allegiance of thus far neutral countries in Europe with lavish promises to what they might be given upon a victory. Romania, Sweden, Bulgaria and Finland have been especially vital to this.

https://preview.redd.it/zi9j2mf1xa2h1.png?width=1691&format=png&auto=webp&s=c5ff7b841db5fe02d1fcb3fbeb4cb674537e0db2

India is finally unified however elsewhere the USAS has openly begun preparing for a pro-Internationale intervention in Canada. This threat has led to the cancellation of Operation Homecoming which was slated for late 1941 and intended the invasion of Britain. Furthermore German forces have begun advancing in Italy and France, threatening to split the former in two and reach Paris for the latter.

This year has not been kind on Germany either: for one Russia finally attacked and although a combination of local and german forces have been able to hold the advance at the Dnepr-Daugava Line even more pressure has been put on german forces as the Empire of Japan has begun a large scale assault on german and dutch colonies in Asia shortly after a decapitating blow to the East Asian fleet in Singapore.

As a result the Netherlands have declared war on the Empire of Japan, but despite german urging and lavish promises for future Mitteleuropan ventures, they have continued asserting their neutrality in respect to the war in Europe. Meanwhile Chinese forces have valiantly held back the Japanese which brought about brutal occupation policies, famine and near-genocidal warfare. Although internally divided China is now fighting as one.

Additionally both Reichspakt and Entente have deepened their ties, agreeing upon a unified command structure as soon as both forces have sufficiently linked up and a preliminary agreement on the post-war world order, one that includes reconciliation between the German Empire and the French.

The Second Weltkrieg has gone on for almost a year now and it seems as though the Third Internationale has gotten itself in a war it may not be able to win. Although peace has been reestablished in the Middle East and the Ottoman Empire finally was forced to retreat to Anatolia, in Europe things have spiraled out of control as the Entente entered the war after only a few months following its outbreak. Intensive fighting is ravaging Belgium and the France yet neither side has attained an advantage. The only advances have been made by the Third Internationale in Portugal, which proved unable to hold its own against the Spanish anarchists.

In Asia however, colonialism is being seemingly being thrown off as India is uniting under the peacefully formed government headed by Gandhi and the Legation Cities are de-facto dismantled as the Japanese decide to impose their own Imperial rule on the cities. China though, headed by the Left Kuomintang fights for its very existence in a war against a relentless enemy.

The world burns yet the entry of either Russia or the USAS could decisively change the fortunes of either side.

  1. The Syndicalists sweeped in the American Civil War. Japan seized Hawaii and the Aleutian Islands. By 1939 there are still partisans to get rid off. America isnt ready for war.

  2. Fentiangs increasing disloyalty was "rewarded" with an japanese invasion and the installation of a puppet regime in Manchuria.

  3. The Emperor got shot and Japan became National Populist as a result.

  4. Gandhi and the Dominion came to an agreement and large parts of India are unified.

  5. The Austrian Ausgleich utterly failed with Germany using the opportunity to "push" Austria into joining the German Empire. Hungary is Germany-aligned. Illyria is socialist under Tito but deeply isolationist, so as to not incur german intervention. The only reason Germany hasn't intervened is due to the tensions with the Internationale.

  6. Russia has become menshevik and a semi-stable democracy.

  7. From 1937-early 1939 there was the "Italian War" which essentially serves as this timelines equivalent of the Spanish Civil War with each side supporting their favorites. As you can see the Syndies won for the most part. There are still skirmishes between the Italian Republic and SRI but german guarantees for Italy have stopped any more offensives for now.

  8. Germany is ruled by the SPD.
