how do you actually verify the kit brand and platelet count before buying prp?

i’m looking to get prp injections for a chronic tendon issue before committing to anything more aggressive like stem cell therapy. but every regenerative medicine clinic i speak with is incredibly vague about their actual protocol.

they all quote me these massive numbers like $1,200 a shot, but when i ask what centrifuge or kit brand they use, or what the actual platelet concentration factor is, they just give me a generic “it’s high quality medical grade” response. i know the kit and prep method can matter a lot, especially for orthopedic/tendon cases, but most clinics don’t seem to want to explain it.

for those of you who approach this scientifically, how do you verify the specs before you hand over your credit card? is there an independent source that tracks clinic equipment and upfront rates so i don’t have to keep playing phone tag with sales reps?

I’m getting pretty worn down by this.

I’ve been dealing with neuropathy and some really stubborn joint stiffness for months now, and it’s getting to the point where even basic movement can set things off. Some days my neck and other joints feel so tight and irritated that it stops feeling like a normal pain flare and starts feeling like my body is just locking up.

I’ve tried the usual stuff so far: meds, gentle stretching, basic massage, and the kind of advice that’s supposed to help you “manage” it. Some of it takes the edge off for a bit, but nothing feels like it’s changing much underneath.

I’m not looking for miracle answers, just trying to figure out what’s actually worth researching when the pain feels deeper and more complicated than a simple muscle issue.

Has anyone here found anything that felt genuinely worth exploring? I keep hearing people mention things like shockwave, but I can’t tell if that’s actually useful in cases like this or just another expensive detour.

Hi everyone, I’ve been dealing with chronic plantar fasciitis and a partial patellar tendon tear for over a year. I’ve seen multiple specialists and tried 'everything,' but the results are so inconsistent that I’m starting to question the tech being used.

For my foot, I had 5 sessions of 'Shockwave therapy.' The first clinic’s machine felt like a loud tapping (I suspect it was radial?), but it did nothing. The second clinic mentioned something about 'focused' waves and higher bar pressure, and I actually felt a difference, but they couldn't explain the specific protocol or why their machine was 'better.'

The same thing is happening with PRP. One ortho quoted me $600, another $1,500. When I asked about the kit brand or the platelet concentration (Leukocyte-rich vs poor), they just gave me vague answers like 'it’s high quality.'

As PTs, how much do you emphasize the specific device specs and kit protocols when referring patients? Does it actually matter if it's an Arthrex kit vs. a generic centrifuge, or Focused vs. Radial shockwave for tendon remodeling?

I’m trying to find a provider who is actually transparent about their equipment and dosage levels instead of just selling a 'treatment name.' How do you guys filter through clinics that just have fancy marketing but vague tech specs?
