My Smash 6 Wish Roster: 101 Fighters, excluding echoes
Need more Women in Smash as well as more variety in fighter body shapes / more non human fighters.
Long explanation incoming
I didn’t cut any characters because I wanted to abide by the ‘Everyone is Here!’ format. If we just brought everyone back, why get rid of any of them? The new fighters I’m adding are in the bottom two rows, after and including the Mii Fighters.
I made a small mistake in formatting my character select screen; forgot that Pyra and Mythra were counted as two separate ‘numbers’ within one space, and had done the roster math for them being seperately numbered resulting in an extra space; so I just pulled them apart from each other, just like the Kanto pokemon.
In Smash Brawl, two 3rd-party characters were added; and then two in Sm4sh base game; three for DLC; one in Ultimate base; then a whopping EIGHT 3rd party reps in Ults DLC. This brings us to 16 3rd-parties. With a roster of just over 100, I can’t justify the 3rd-party count to exceed much greater than 20% of the roster. Thus, I had to decide on only 5 new third party reps maximum, to have 80% Nintendo IP representatives.
Now, for some rundown on the new fighter choices. Coming off of 82 fighters from Ultimate, I felt like 100 or 101 would be an appropriate cap, allowing 19 newcomers. If my math is correct, Brawl, Sm4sh, and Ultimate all added around 18 or 19 newcomers as well, making this a seemingly consistent number of additions.
Mii Mage and Mii Sports
Miitopia and Tomodachi LTD; Wii Sports Resort / Club and Nintendo Switch Sports. Unlimited fighter choices with Mii Costume Characters. Mage specials inspired from Zelda, Robin, Sora, or status moves like sleep and poison; Basic attacks with Staff, Palu’s Nair but weaker, AOE spells.
Sports specials and smash attacks basically what you can expect, pulling from peach (golf and tennis), ness (home run), slightly villager (bowling), duck hunt (frisbee), jetpack for up B, sportsmate as an alt.
Spyro
I understand PlayStation is protective with it’s IPs. However, Spyro is owned by Microsoft now. I would like more non-human-like fighters for some variety. Spyro is a great personality and would unite the big 3 console companies as another gaming icon. Also I blame Nintendo for the decline of Spyro because of Skylanders. If you’ve played Spyro his moveset is what you’d expect, horn-bash, switching between elemental dragon powers, and ranged projectiles. maybe Sparx is there too.
Chibi-Robo
Iconic. I need my little guy in there. Nintendo also killed his series with Zip-Lash; None of that. Plug Into Adventure, Clean Sweep, Park Patrol, maybe a little Photo Finder; Blaster, Helicopter, Reaction Signs popping out of his head, Plug Combat, Toothbrush and Spoon. Space Hunter Drake Redcrest Alt and theme song.
Layton
3rd party, DS legacy pick, six games back to back, and a new mainline Layton game on the horizon. He does indeed throw hands, sword fight, and invents tools for combat and traversal on the fly (thinking of the coin machine gun and improv glider from Unwound Future). So I’m thinking he would partly use tools and machines, and the rest of his set would be puzzle related attacks; magnifying glass to search for hint coins, sliding block, and ‘puzzle solved’ revelations with hitboxes kind of like Ace Attorney objection style.
Cooking Mama
Also a 3rd party DS rep. Mama has extended her reigns onto the Wii, 3DS, and PlayStation. Her attacks could have varying range and damage depending on the consecutive timing of your inputs, just like when trying to make a dish. Like hold inputs, or like how Bayo and Sora have more ‘chain combos’ than just in their Jabs, multiple of Mama’s basic attacks could be extended to yield better dishes. She also does some gardening in her free time.
Samurai Goroh
I just couldn’t let F-Zero be the only series from Smash 64 without additional representation, It didn’t seem right. Capt. Falcon already has an originally fabricated moveset, so I argue Goroh has a little more going for him with the Sumo Samurai Schtick. Haven’t played any F-Zero or watched the anime, wondering how to balance the speed of F-Zero with him being a mid-heavy. Maybe fast attacks and grapples, one projectile, but low run speed and jump height.
Great Fairy
Recognizable, powerful, unique. Comes out of a flower sometimes. Can turn into a bunch of smaller fairies. OOT, WW, BOTW, and EoW / classic forms. Has plenty of character and animations. Was tied between her and Nabooru as Iron Knuckle, but felt like greater rep of the series rather than more OOT rep was preferable. If I had space for another Zelda rep it would be Iron Knuckle. Plus the west hates Tingle apparently.
Oatchi
Need more dogs in smash. He can rush and chomp, but also carry and command Pikmin! What a cutie. He also has a dark version called ‘Moss’.
That’s the first row of newcomers; I will continue my explanations for the second row in the comments! Please let me know what you think!
