What if you had to build a Smash roster but could only have one fighter for each year?

1. You must submit video game characters who officially debuted on the designated year
2. Most upvoted comment gets through
3. Ties will be broken by a poll and then wheel if still undecided. Poll link votes have priority.
4. You can submit complete newcomers for any year possible. You are not locked to empty years or a small selection.

Lyn takes Ike's spot! Today is a special round, for the franchise's only 3-in-1 character. Reminder that they can be from any franchise. They will also be reduced to a single fighter temporarily for Smash 4, so bonus points if you mention which fighter is kept.

Notes for Brawl: Pokemon Trainer's spot will be a 3-in-1 character. Snake's and Sonic's spots will be our first 3rd party!

Make a roster of characters who have never been playable in a Smash game! Let's try to make a nice, diverse, semi-realistic roster (major franchises represented well, retro reps, playstyle variations, and so on).

Highest voted eligible character gets added to the roster. Video game original characters only.

Character must have debuted before the game's release year, so prior to 2008 for Brawl.

Characters that take the place of a fighter who gets cut from future installments will be cut from the same games (i.e. the fighter in Pichu's place will be cut until Ultimate).

Transformation characters will be limited to as many as are in the actual games (i.e. a 2 form character for Melee for Zelda/Sheik, and a 3 form character in Brawl for Pokemon Trainer).

3rd party characters will be limited to as many as are in the actual games (i.e. 2 for Brawl). None until then.

To make things easier, we'll ignore clones until we get to the characters labeled as echoes in Ultimate (which won't be until Lucina and Dark Pit in Sm4sh). So don't worry about Luigi or Jigglypuff's spots being clones.

Characters that were costumes (Alph, Koopalings) are not eligible. Variations of existing characters (like Dr. Mario or Toon Link were) will be allowed at my discretion.

Well, this was certainly a close one for third place. Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man were pretty much locks, but in a very close one, Dig Dug's Taizo Hori made the third spot just ahead of Gilgamesh from Tower of Druaga. My prediction was right on this one, but let's see how well that holds up for this next one. Also I'm wondering how many people in the subreddits I repost this to will ask "Wait, why is Dig Dug allowed!? I thought it was only Pac-Man characters!"

Well, while I wait for that inevitability, let's focus on the next series: Xenoblade (with the new game announced, I can't call it Xenoblade Chronicles). Three games (technically four) in this young series that originally wasn't even supposed to leave Japan until Operation Rainfall happened, and yet it's now become as much of a staple of Nintendo's lineup as things like Fire Emblem and Donkey Kong. Let's see who from this RPG series is really feeling it.

As a reminder, the rules:

1. Only characters that originate from the games of the franchise for the day (in this case, Xenoblade. No, Xenogears and Xenosaga won't be included, those are different series that were made by MonolithSoft), but the characters don't have to have been playable in an official Smash Bros. game
2. No downvoting
3. You can choose either a team of three or an individual character, but only one submission per person on each day. If you wish to change your choice, you can either delete your old post and make a new one or reply to the original comment with your changes you're making.
4. All votes to a team will count as the three characters in that team getting a vote
5. The three characters with the most upvotes will make the team for their franchise

A lot of these characters, change, smash in a good way more than a bad word anyone who tells you otherwise is being biased because their favorite character didn’t get it at the end of the day. A lot of of these characters some of them might not be Nintendo they did bring a large majority of fans into smash. Especially when you’re actually take in the fact that we most likely wouldn’t have gotten any of these characters

if Sakurai listened to the complaint on social media and did as they said, but no, he didn’t cave to the amount of whining and complaining on social media. He did it his own way and made the decision to give us a lot of the best DLC fighters in smash history.

Edit: ignore the fact that I put joker’s picture twice that was on accident The picture was supposed to be banjo and I didn’t have a picture so I went to get one. I can’t edit a photo and I’m not going to delete. The post just know banjo should be on here but he’s not over but he is one of the reasons why he should definitely return same with the other characters that are on that list.

Electric element fighters can be any character that has to do with electricity like a person who controls it or is made out or its a big part of their character but if they would fit the tech element more then electric I won’t count them I want this to be unique

Oh and make sure the stuff debuted either before Smash 4, or is close to release like with Wooly World or Corrin

I want Electivire. There are definitely people, probably a lot, who think Pokémon already has enough reps, but I think we need at least one more big heavy Pokémon, of which Incineroar and Charizard are currently the only ones, and humanoid Pokémon, which again includes only Incineroar and an argument could be made for Lucario. I think he's got some interesting potential for moves, and the mod that adds him to Ultimate says it has random variations on f-smash potentially being Ice, Fire or Thunder Punch, which maybe could be switched to a directional input like Peach/Daisy's f-smash. I thought of Magnet Rise for up-B, possibly a Snake-style recovery tool. Giga Impact is a move that Electivire learns at later levels a lot in Pokémon games, perhaps that could be his side special, a bit like Little Mac's neutral special with long lag time, armor and high power. I also found it a bit odd that neither Pikachu nor Pichu have Thunderbolt, so possibly Thunderbolt for a neutral special projectile, or perhaps Electro Ball. He'd probably be in a similar weight class to DK or Ganondorf and have powerful attacks like them but also be on the slower side in terms of movement speed/maneuverability.

And ding-ding-ding, that's the bell to end Round 21! Sorry, couldn't help but make a boxing reference. Anyway yeah, Mac will be joined by Doc Louis and King Hippo. A little surprised by this, but not all that much. I kinda figured that it would be a four person race with Glass Joe coming in somewhere. Also, before I go any further, I want to give art credit where it's due. Now that I've done my due diligence, it's time we move on to Pac-Man. However, since Pac-Man clearly doesn't just represent himself in Smash, I am going to make a judgement call and open up the voting to any-and-all Namco arcade reps...except for Tekken. Tekken gets its own spot later on. Every other Namco Arcade game is fair game. This one should be a fun one to see who gets nominated, let alone who wins this one. Let's see what you guys can do.

Well, I anticipated Wii Fit Trainer and Matt...I didn't expect the Ring Fit Trainee to crash the party, that was a surprise. Also quite a varied list of nominees for this very weird category. That's certainly a way to cross the halfway point of this little experiment. I'm excited to see what the back half will bring us.

And we'll start with the second half with Punch-Out!!, a series that I would really like to see Nintendo bring back one of these days, especially with the way the Joy-Cons are designed. I'm excited to see who will be included in this one, however. Show me what you've got.
