Repurposing Yarn Order
Hi there! Sorry if this is a common question, I couldn’t find results but I may have been searching the wrong phrase. I am repurposing a thin new wool and cashmere hat that is an awful shade of beige and I wasn’t sure if I should dye the hat before I unravel it or after I make it into a hank. I have never dyed yarn before but I dye fabric very often. Unevenness isn’t so much of a concern to me and I have both acid dyes and pro-mx dyes but I am worried about felting if I dye before I unravel, and tangling after unraveling because of how dainty and fuzzy the yarn is. I would estimate it is somewhere between a lace and fingering weight? Because it is wool it will most likely require heat setting even with the pro-mx dyes as I have never had great results with the acid wash fixative for pro-mx on wool fabrics. I could be wrong because i am assuming there are some great differences between dyeing wool yarn and wool fabric. Any insight and ideas would be really helpful, I am open to all suggestions! Thank you in advance!!
