Vanilla Crawler
Love this community and I'm finally getting around to sharing a favourite of mine. I'm stuck with a Switch 1 and I'm not keen on handing over any more money to Nintendo after the last round of updates to the Switch - so no fun QR builds for me.
For the last couple of years, even before QR builds were a thing, I've been looking at build a simple vehicle to cruise the depths to help with farming zonai ore. While compelling Link to cut down gloom-infected beasts is fun, there's something much more satisfying with despatching them using war machines - no more repairing or replacing broken weapons. With that in mind, I present the Vanilla Crawler. Features include:
- Simple build. Nothing too complicated required like stake nudging or q-linking. Appeals to my laziness.
- Only exception was the pulse lasers I used. That actually wasn't too bad thanks to u/evanthebouncy's tutorial. With subpar optimisation, it's still pretty powerful and energy efficient. Worth the effort even if it goes against the spirit of this.
- Total of 9 part, only 1 non-zonai and that's easy to acquire.
- 1 x metal basket. The one I can recommend is on the build station in the depths south west of the Kasari Lightroot (under Gerudo).
- 1 x steering stick.
- 1 x stabiliser.
- 2 x springs.
- 4 x big wheels.
- 1 x stake (for building process only).
- Link is well protected, also not easy to spot as long as the steering stick isn't too low. At the very least it's shielded from gloom inducing rocks thrown at him.
- Link is not immune to ill-placed bomb flowers though. Rolling over them with the rear wheel will probably hurt Link.
- Navigates rough terrain one might find in the depths decently, even if slowly.
- Easy dismount for jumping off and on quickly to collect things.
So fuse a metal basket, head over to Tarrey Town to unfuse it, drag it down to the race course, because big wheels and steering stick are down there along with a flat surface to help with building.
I've armed mined with 6 pulsed beam emitters, sitting on a mirror. This allows the construct heads to tilt back much further without causing them to snap off. While cannons are fun, it send the zonai ore flying every where.
Apologies for the crappy video tutorial. It's a first.
