First prototype of a conductor's baton for a friend of mine - he doesn't use traditional batons but he often conducts using a pencil. Just started this hobby last week and really enjoying!

This piece broke off the lathe before I could finish. Any tips on keeping pieces on the lathe when they're getting close to the end? I could feel it getting less stable but am not sure how to combat it.
