Cleaning hacks

I’m 32F with bilateral FAI and a labral tear. I’m currently pre-op and am being assessed for surgery, but my hips are oddly shaped (my consultant isn’t sure if it’s dysplasia or just weird looking) so surgery is looking like it’s going to be a while away. I feel like this post comes across as ‘woe is me’ but any ideas or solutions I’d really appreciate ❤️

I live on my own and really struggle with bending over and standing for longer periods of time. As a result, I’m really struggling to do housework. I can keep on top of the bare minimum like washing clothes and dishes, but anything more than that is a struggle.

I try to pace myself but just doing 15 minutes causes me a lot of pain, even if I take painkillers. I’ve not had a home cooked meal in months and pretty much live off ready meals and foods that are easy to make quickly. I’ve had help from friends in the past but I feel guilty asking too often. My flat is looking dreadful and it’s getting me down.

Has anyone else have/had this issue too? Do you have any advice on ways I can make this easier for me? My flat isn’t tidy enough for a cleaner, and honestly I’d be ashamed for them to see it in this state to start with. I’ve thought about getting a grabber (like a litter picker) but not sure that would be beneficial.

Thank you ☺️

Issues with selling scrubs

Has anyone had an issue with trying to list these?

There’s loads of posts for people selling their scrubs, but whenever I’ve listed them they’ve gotten removed. They give a reason as a “prohibited or restricted item”. But, these aren’t a work uniform (no organisation name - only the manufacturer name).

I’ve looked at other adverts and there’s nothing I’ve said in the description which is different to the successful adverts. I’ve described the flaws and included pictures (some bobbling to the inner thighs).

I’ve appealed, but does anyone have any ideas why mine might be getting removed?

Hip preservation vs replacement

Hi everyone,

I’m 32F and have had chronic pain for 14 years. Only last year it was found that I’ve got a labral tear and FAI.

TLDR; to the ladies (and to a smaller extent, young men) of this group, what’s your experiences been with hip preservation/ resurfacing surgery? Did you get the results you were hoping for? Did it result in a hip replacement?

On Friday I saw my consultant surgeon who’s an expert in young adult hips. I’m lucky that I know from this group the route this was likely to take. I asked about hip preservation/ resurfacing surgery and my consultant said that the surgery doesn’t tend to be as successful in women as our hips are smaller. Also I’m only 5’2” so my hips are definitely on the smaller side. Ultimately, I’ll need a hip replacement at some point but as I’m so young he wants to try and avoid it for now (which is understandable).

He referred me to a professor who’s the lead of research and development on young adult hips in my area. My consultant said that he’d ask the prof. to review my case and if we can avoid a hip replacement. But, if he thinks that preservation surgery is unlikely to be beneficial they’ll book me for a ceramic hip replacement.

My only experience with this is a male family friend who had hip preservation surgery, but ended up having bilateral hip replacements within 10 years. So in my head I’m thinking I might as well just bite the bullet and get the hip replaced.

I’ve just finished 5 years at uni and am due to start working as a doctor in a few months. My pain has caused me so many issues over the last 14 years and I don’t want it to affect my career any more. I know the recovery from both surgeries is about the same. I’m just worried that hip preservation might be too much of a gamble, and don’t want to have to return for a hip replacement so soon if I continue to have issues.

For those in the group who’ve had either/both surgeries, what was your experience?

Thank you ❤️

Sorry in advance if I’ve used the wrong flair.

TLDR; how long did you wait between first appointment/steroid injection to a follow up appointment and surgery?

I’m currently under the care of orthopaedics in Southampton for a confirmed labral tear and ?FAI. I’ve had my initial appointment and had a LA/steroid injection at the beginning of March. Other than 2 brief flare ups immediately after the injection, I had been pretty much pain free since. I stopped taking ibuprofen and was sleeping over an hour more each night as the pain was no longer waking me up multiple times a night.

Annoyingly, last week my pain returned to my pre-injection levels. I’ve been taking ibuprofen and dihydrocodiene regularly since then, plus ice packs, TENS machine etc. to dry and dull the pain back down. I’m back to waking up 4+ times a night due to the pain and the lack of sleep is getting to me. Living a ‘normal’ life for 7 weeks has made me appreciate just how much I’ve taken sleep, sitting, and standing comfortably for granted.

I really like my surgeon, but trying to get a follow up appointment seems impossible at the moment. I’ve emailed his secretary but they can’t give an estimate (I understand why, but the unknown of how long it will be isn’t giving me any hope). I know waiting lists across the NHS are dreadful, but was wondering if anyone can let me know roughly how long you waited in a similar situation? (Not necessarily in Southampton but NHS in general).

Is there any point going back to my GP to see if I can be moved up the priority list? I get that I’m not dying, but it’s effecting my life so much.

My consultant does work privately and at this point I’m desperate enough to take out a loan to cover the appointment and surgery costs. I can’t afford it but prepared to take the financial hit to get this fixed sooner rather than later.

Thank you ❤️
