For anyone wondering the same thing I was: yeah, the Doginal Dogs free mint is long over, all 10,000 were claimed back in Jan 2024. So you can't mint one for free anymore. But you can still get one by buying from a current holder on the official marketplace, that's the only way in now.

Whether 'too late' applies depends what you want out of it. If you wanted the free mint, that ship sailed. If you want into the community and the ecosystem, that's still wide open and arguably more built-out now than it was then. Missing the mint isn't the same as missing the project. Not advice, just how I thought about it.

Something I actually cared about before buying, because a lot of NFTs don't do this. Doginal Dogs are inscribed directly onto the Dogecoin blockchain, meaning the art itself lives on-chain, not on some company's server. A ton of older NFTs are really just a token pointing at an image hosted elsewhere, and if that server dies, your art can vanish.

With an inscription that risk basically goes away, the image is written into the chain data itself, permanent, no hosting bill to lapse. For me that 'the art can't disappear' part was a bigger selling point than any price talk. If anyone understands the permanence guarantees more deeply, would love the technical detail.

Genuinely want the bear case before I buy, so talk me out of it. What I like: real community, on-chain art, free-mint origin, active events. But I want to hear the risks honestly, not the hype. What am I not seeing?

My own list so far: NFTs are speculative and floors move a lot, liquidity can be thin so selling isn't instant, and a strong community doesn't guarantee price. It's also tied to the Dogecoin inscription ecosystem specifically. I'm fine buying for the community and treating price as a maybe, but if there's a real downside I'm missing, tell me straight before I do. Not looking for cope, looking for the honest risks.

Since the name gets copied, here's how I made sure I bought the real Doginal Dogs and not a lookalike. One, it's on Dogecoin, not Solana or ETH, if a 'Doginal' thing is on another chain or it's a coin with a price chart, it's not this collection. Two, the real one is 10,000 pixel dogs, viewable at the official marketplace market.doginaldogs.com.

Three, you can verify the specific dog's inscription on the Dogecoin blockchain before you buy. If it's not one of the 10,000 and not confirmable on-chain, walk away. Took me five minutes to check and it's worth doing. Anyone else run into the copycats when they were first looking? The name confusion is real.
