Marut's first fight after gaining his powers. Also, I still can't decide what to name this creature.

Paper Hunters, I’m working on this concept for my superhero universe and wanted some feedbacks and help.

The basic idea is that AI and digital technology became so advanced that people slowly stopped fully trusting digital reality. At first it starts with things like fake videos, cloned voices, manipulated images, hacked systems, altered records, and fabricated identities becoming more common and harder to detect. Over time the problem becomes serious enough that governments, corporations, courts, police departments, and even ordinary people start having trouble deciding what information is actually real.

A lot of institutions still publicly act like everything is under control because openly admitting that digital systems are no longer fully trustworthy would probably create panic and damage public confidence even more. Most people still use digital systems in daily life, but behind the scenes governments, corporations, financial institutions, and courts slowly begin relying more and more on physical verification systems again.

Things like paper documents, film negatives, handwritten signatures, offline archives, mechanical recording devices, sealed evidence containers, and physically authenticated records start becoming important again because physical proof begins to feel more reliable than digital proof.

The world doesn’t become less technologically advanced, but society starts adapting to distrust. So you end up with this strange mix of futuristic technology alongside older analogue systems returning for security reasons.

As this shift grows, entire industries begin forming around protecting and transporting physical information. Secure archive facilities become extremely important. Some buildings are designed almost like vaults just to store physical records safely. Companies start specializing in moving sensitive documents between cities using armored transport systems, sealed containers, biometric locks, human witnesses, and offline tracking methods because people no longer fully trust network-based systems.

Even normal things become more complicated. Courts may require physical copies of evidence. Governments maintain hidden offline archives in case digital systems are compromised. Journalists use film-based verification devices because digital footage is constantly questioned. Wealthy people pay for physical identity records and private archive storage the same way people today pay for cybersecurity.

But bringing physical verification back also brings back older problems that society had mostly forgotten about.

Important records can now be physically stolen or destroyed. Archives become robbery targets. Evidence shipments get hijacked. Black markets begin forming around forged documents, original records, historical files, sealed evidence, and authentic physical identities.

PAPER HUNTERS

One idea that came out of this was a criminal profession called “Paper Hunters.”

Instead of hacking data, these people target physical proof itself. Some intercept transport convoys carrying verified records. Some break into archive facilities. Others specialize in stealing or replacing physical documents before they reach courts, corporations, or government institutions. In some cases they’re basically treated like a mix between smugglers, thieves, spies, and organized criminals because controlling physical proof becomes extremely valuable in this world.
