Was building an avatar pipeline and figured I'd run the same gaze direction test on two image models I see in this sub all the time: GPT Image (everyone here uses it through ChatGPT) and Nano Banana Pro. Same reference photo, same 9 gaze direction prompts, same 3x3 grid setup.

Honest comparison after looking at both:

Identity consistency goes to NB Pro by a clear margin. Same face structure across all 9 cells, same hair fall, same skin tone. GPT Image keeps the general look but the face structure drifts cell to cell — same woman but cheekbones and jawline shift across the grid. If you scroll quickly between the two you can tell which is which.

Both models follow gaze direction prompts decently. Up/down/side instructions land in roughly the right spot. Neither perfectly nails "straight up at the ceiling" — both fudge the angle a bit.

Where GPT Image isn't bad: expression and mouth shape come out a little more natural, less "studio composite" feel. NB Pro is uniform polished, GPT Image is more candid.

For character work (avatars, comic panels, brand consistency across many shots), NB Pro is the move based on this batch. For one-off portraits where natural expression matters more than batch consistency, GPT Image is fine.

Posting both grids — first one is GPT Image, second is NB Pro. Curious if anyone else has run a similar character consistency batch and seen different results.

Fun fact: I'm actually really, **really** good at this. And yes, the third image is Toga.

I asked AI to generate a futuristic city with advanced buildings, supercars, bikes, flying vehicles, holograms, and smart roads… and honestly the result looks insane.

The amount of detail in the skyscrapers and vehicles surprised me. It feels like a mix of cyberpunk + realistic future technology.
