Seeing admission file

This might be a dumb question but is it possible for intl students to view their admissions file?

Also, would there be any negative repercussions or friction with school administrators if I formally requested to see it through FERPA? I don't want to inadvertently annoy anyone in the admissions office.

Has anyone here actually done this as an international student?

Textbooks?

Have any CS majors received their canvas link yet? I don't know how to see the required textbooks / syllabus for my courses, so I was wondering if anyone knew what textbook / resources are CS 16/MATH 4A/ANTH 3 taught from? Thanks!

1 year UCB transfer

I have a lot of credits from AP and I most likely will get over 90 quarter credits ( including APs) by end of first year. Will I be ineligible to apply as junior transfer then if I have too many credits 2nd year? I heard UCB/ucla dont take first year transfer tho so I was wondering how I should time my transfer

Are transfer apps out yet

I know commonapp for first year is open, but I cant find certain unis that I want to transfer to on the transfer commonapp ( like lets say Cornell ). Are they not open yet? And if so, when do they normally open? And are the prompts the same as first year with an extra why transfer essay?

How hard is it to transfer to CCS?

Current UCSB CS major, applied and
rejected during admissions process. I was wondering what sort of experience does a student need to have to change major to CCS for computing?

Any UCSB students?

I’m an incoming freshman at UCSB, and I have a few (a lot of) questions regarding orientation, student orgs, and choosing courses.

  1. How does orientation work for Intl students? Do I have to arrive one month before school starts?

  2. How do I apply for student orgs? Can I join before school starts?

  3. When can I choose courses? I’m a CS Major, so I was wondering where I could find a reference to see how many credits/units I can cover with my AP courses, and any recommendations for free electives

  4. I play the cello, and was hoping that I could bring my cello to UCSB. Does anyone know where I can store it? (I applied for small double or triple rooms, so I’m not sure whether there is enough space

This seems like a lot, so thank you so much to anyone that read this or could answer me😭🙏

UCSB CS or HKU CDS

I am an intl student that got accepted to the above two programs, and I was wondering which one Im supposed to go to. Granted, I received an initial scholarship offer from HKU while ucsb didn’t give a regents scholarship, so finance will always be an issue. However, I was wondering if the proximity to Silicon Valley of UCSB, transfer opportunities and undergraduate research opportunities make it worth it?

Another concern is the probability of finding a job / internship in the US because of my international status. For both schools I’m most likely planning to get a master / PhD degree in the US. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.

I’m from a normal HK band 1 high school and I have a 1530 sat alongside 7 5s + 2 4s in AP, with a special award at ISEF and medals at other ISEF-affiliated international science fairs. I have also played the cello at Carnegie Hall. I heard that NUS and NTU value grades more than extra curricular activities (I’m not sure), and I also heard that these two schools evaluate students of other qualifications before AP. Can any students / experts give advice on my chances?

NUS
Common Computer Science Programmes - AI
Engineering - Robotics & Machine Intelligence
Computer Engineering
DDP CCCP with Data Analytics

NTU
DS and AI
CS
ME with 2nd major in DA
Robotics with 2nd major in DA
Information engineering and media with a second major in da

I was also accepted to UCSB CS and HKU CDS, and was also wondering if I should join UCSB because of its opportunities in the US, which may prove to provide better transfer and grad studies pathways to hypsm and other top 10 schools.

Can anyone give any advice on what I should do?
