5.1 setup — dialogue nearly inaudible at low volume, center boost and Dialog Level both have tradeoffs
Running a 5.1 setup and struggling with dialogue at low volume. Looking for advice from anyone who's solved this.
Setup:
- Onkyo TX-RZ30
- Crossover at 80 Hz, 5.1 config
- Signal shows as Atmos correctly
- Calibratednwith dirac live
The problem:
At low/moderate volume, voices are really hard to hear during normal scenes. I've tried two things:
• Center channel at +6 dB — dialogue is better but surround effects become noticeably too quiet in comparison
• Dialog Level at +6 dB — helps with intelligibility but makes everything sound off
Anyone have tips for making dialogue cut through at low volume without killing the surround mix?
