Need help finding very specific metal band/sound
Hey,
I'm a guitarist looking for death metal (or deathcore/blackened death) that pairs real brutality, like blast beats and heavy breakdowns and stuff, but with a less evil or occult atmosphere and a more emotional(?) one. The reference point is Mark Holcomb's playing in Periphery and Haunted Shores. I love how he uses simple, open, high-gain chords with great voicings that feel almost post-hardcore in their emotion, and I want that as the backbone of the riffing. The perfect example is Haunted Shores' Void album, along with "Pale Aura" by Periphery and "Passenger" by Haunted Shores. Void is instrumental, so I'm looking for that same feel with high or mid-pitched fry screams rather than guttural growls. I like tremolo-picked harmonized lines in moderation, but I don't want a band that relies on them for the whole song or album. So far, Fallujah's Xenotaph and Rivers of Nihil's Where Owls Know My Name (for the guitar tone) have come closest, and The Black Dahlia Murder's Nocturnal has been fun but lacks the chordal side. Any recommendations that fit this specific mix of heaviness and catharsis would be hugely appreciated, especially lesser-known bands. I mostly use Spotify. Thanks!
