What should i expect on my first psychiatrist visit?
I’m finally planning to visit a psychiatrist (recommendations are welcome in Bangalore) after taking loads of tests online to check if i actually have adhd. I am a med student myself, and i once spoke to psychiatrist in our college and he brushed it off as if it’s nothing. And lately my life has become a mess, kinda tetherless honestly. I wake up and stay in bed until noon doing absolutely nothing.
I have so much to study and so many things to do and i end up feeling like “lets do it tomorrow”. Few months ago i was working out regularly, running and all that and i was fit, And after that i starting studying for exams and this mentally occupying shit literally feels like huge hurdle. I used to be a huge math guy, topped physics and had qualified for jee advance too even though my prep wasn’t math specific.
Studying in medschool requires a lot of rote learning, and somedays i actually go into this “exploring phase” where i literally dissect content in my book down to molecular level, and somedays i struggle to read and comprehend a single page. I had similar problems during my schooling age too but never had a problem with math though.
Now I’m addicted to cigarettes, and energy drinks. They help a bit to focus for say 2 or 3 hours and then poof. I want to starting working out again and start running again too. I want to quit smoking too (might be unrelated, but today i looked up and it said people with adhd have high substance abuse potential which scared the living shit out of me tbh)
Any tips before i go tomorrow? And will i have take someone from family with? And will i be prescribed meds on the first day if i turn out to have adhd?
