We are 2 fit, middle aged women wanting to see theist of Chilean Patagonia. If possible, would like to avoid carrying a tent but wondering if that is possible, looking at our planned route. Any feedback on our itinerary welcomed:
After finishing a week's trekking tour in Torres del Paine, planning this:
Day 1:Puerto Natales to El Calafate by bus 6.15 hrs. Stay overnight.
Day 2: Visit Perito Moreno Glacier next day. (Perhaps late bus to El Chalten?)
DAY 3: El Calafate to El Chalten by bus 3 hrs. Best day hike?
DAY 4: El Chalten
DAY 5 and 6: Begin (2 day? trip to Villa O Higgins) including bus, ferry, ride and trek. Is tent and sleeping bag a MUST?
Day 6 and 7: Villa O Higgins
Day 8: Bus to Cochrane 11 hours
Day 9: Bus to Coyhaique 7-8 hrs
Day 10-14 Book Rental car to explore this part of Patagonia.
Day 15 Fly to Santiago
Some questions:
Is this too ambitious given weather, uncertainties of travel etc? If so, what would you suggest instead?
Is tent and sleeping bag essential?
Which parts of the trip do we need to book ahead and how far ahead? We are travelling mid January to early February.
Any suggestions on driving itinerary/highlights from Coyhaique?
