New officer and I read “verbal judo” after many recommendations and I have some questions..

I found a lot of the advice seemed to apply more to police officers than corrections like for example it recommends to always ask someone to do something instead of telling them because this is more likely to gain cooperation. Obviously I have a lot to learn, but I would think inmates would view me as soft if I was just politely asking them to do tasks all day rather than telling them. It also said to never say things like “because I said so” or “because that’s policy” and to instead explain this is for safety or whatever the case may be. I cannot picture anyone I work with using these phrases and they are good officers. I understand how they could be effective outside the gate but are yall actually using these methods with inmates???
