New Logic update - time to switch?

I'm still on Logic 11, permanent license.. I held back on updating because I saw people complain about Logic 12 requiring regular online verification which sounds annoying. I don't see anything about this in the update notes, is this still an issue?

Basically, would you recommend updating? Please note, I don't use a lot of the features Apple is most keen on updating. I don't want an AI band, I don't want insta-sound tools, I hardly use the sound library or Alchemy or Beat whatever. I have 3rd party plugins and prioritize the basic DAW functionality for recording, editing and mixing.

I did read people complaining about controller support in Logic 11, I see some update notes on that, how has 12 been doing with that? I don't have a controller atm but I might want to get a Presonus Faderport.

Also: I think it's kind of stupid that I can bounce tracks as 32bit but then lose all kinds of basic edit functions. Can Logic 12 finally edit 32bit audio?

Oh, and one more. Logic seems to be a bit hit-and-miss with sidechaining, where some 3rd party plugins that should have sidechain don't offer it in Logic. How's that going?

Good virtual drum kit - upgrade from Studio Drummer?

I'm currently using NI Studio Drummer as a virtual drum kit. It works, but I find it a bit of a hassle at times. Basically it seems really geared towards doing the drum mix within Kontakt whereas I want to do my own drum mix entirely in Logic. Also you don't get spot mics for the cymbals (just hihat). And I feel the Snare Top tends to have too much Bottom Bleed. (Get the ointment...)

When I see product descriptions of alternative virtual drum kits a lot of focus seems to be - as it is with NI - on built-in drum patterns and similar generative tools. I don't want those. It's my arrangement, I decide what the drums are doing, if I want someone to generate drums for me I'll ask a friend or pay someone. So none of those features matter to me. Maybe something that prevents machine-gunning when sending it repeated notes but nothing more.

I also don't care about the processing built into the plugin. I have absolutely excellent 3rd party channel strips, compressors and EQs and would prefer to get more of those (that I can then also use on other tracks) than have stuff built in.

Is anyone here in the same position with their virtual drum kit needs? What is a great plugin just for the raw drum sounds and sampled hits? Big plus if you've got brush hits by default rather than only on selected expansions! Also I would like to be able to easily export individual sounds without internal processing.

Musically I guess I'm mostly into 70s-90s sounds, although I like having options because I go for different sounds for different projects and I want to do more work for others.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in advance!
