tips for visiting beaches as a tourist

Hello! It’s my first time in italy soon, i’m planning a trip to sicily for about a week where i hope to visit the beaches and do some sightseeing. does anyone have recommendations for which beaches and towns to visit if you want to spend a quiet day sunbathing, relax and swim a bit but aren’t especially a strong swimmer? I don’t know the region well so looking for any recs on which areas to prioritize and also which beaches are usually the most and least touristy? and if you are alone are there any tips to keep your valuables safe when you’re in the water? thank you!! 🙏

I’m so sick of having multiple BM per day

I have hydrogen sibo and diarrhea and so far nothing has helped. Each time I get a BM i know it won’t be the only one that morning. The first BM comes out slightly more solid but still very loose and sticky, then after i wash my hands i feel another “round” coming again and have to run back to the toilet. It usually comes out much more diarrhea like than the first. Then about an hour later i start feeling the gurgling and i know it’s about to be a 3rd or even 4th, each time the consistency is more watery and thin than the first.

This happens every other day and it’s driving me crazy, just the wiping alone takes up so much time. It also looks and smells so bad and is often accompanied by lots of gas. This pretty much never happened before i developed sibo. Is it caused by a bad diet or just out of control bacteria and fungi in ur gut? I’m sure it’s linked to other problems like pelvic floor dysfunction but i haven’t been treated for other issues yet.

Does anyone have any tips to reduce these kind of BMs? They waste so much time and energy and it’s exhausting dealing with it.

Do you leave your phone on the beach while swimming?

I feel like most people leave their phone with their stuff on the beach while swimming and I haven’t heard of someone getting it stolen but I know pickpockets do exist lol so I’m still a bit hesitant. Each time I go I just leave it under my mat and keep an eye on it but I still don’t feel 100% at ease. I moved to nice a few months ago and don’t swim often but now that the weathers nicer i’ve been going more often and always worry about dealing with my phone since it’s the only “valuable” i have. I got one of those swim pouch things but they’re kind of inconvenient to carry and i’m also worried ill drop it to the bottom of the ocean lmao. Also I don’t really live near the beach so usually have my phone with me when I go out which might include some swimming like it’s hard to just leave it at home every time. What do locals usually do? Should i just leave it under the mat and stop worrying or just figure out a way to go without it on days i know I’ll go to the beach?

waiter seemed upset when my sister said thank you to his compliment?

Hello,

So I live in the south of france and my siblings are visiting me for the week, yesterday something random happened that i didn’t understand. I was at a restaurant with my brother and sister and friend, it was not a super touristy place, with a nice terrasse.

I speak french almost fluently and my siblings and friend know a little bit, so I ordered for us. Anyway, after we ate, we paid the bill quickly and the waiter came back with the receipt. We were getting ready to leave, and he asked us where we were from originally, we said Seoul and asked him where he was from and he said nantes. Then there was a silence and he turned and said “vous êtes TRÈS jolie” to my sister and stood there looking at us. She said “ah merci beaucoup!” and then he looked upset and kind of did the “pffft” sound, rolled his eyes and immediately walked away.

I thought he was irritated because he wanted us to give him a tip but we had already paid and selected no tip on the machine a few minutes earlier so he presumably knew already, idk why this prompted such an annoyed reaction lol. My sister is like 22 and he seemed to be in his mid to late forties (and not very good looking lol) so i’m assuming he didn’t think she would jumping to ask for his number or his hand in marriage right after this one sentence lmao. Or maybe he just expected a compliment in return like “vous aussi”? 😆😅Does anyone have an idea what might have caused this reaction? Is there some kind of social cue or cultural nuance we didn’t get?

how to address a barrister/lawyer if you’re a student?

Hello,

I’m a law student finishing an LLM and I’m on a short exchange here in europe. Last week I went to a conference where I met some legal practitioners including a barrister from the UK and from australia.

We exchanged briefly after their talk and they both gave me their contact cards, they said they would be happy to chat briefly over zoom or at the university after the break about my research and to give me advice.

I wrote my email but I’m not sure what to call them. Would you say “Dear Counsel Lastname” “Dear Barrister Lastname” or “Dear Mr./Ms. Lastname”? During the conference, they actually addressed themselves as their first name, since they are quite young and maybe because of the low age difference (early or mid 30s and I’m late 20s but i look older lol). They were honestly really nice and friendly but I want to stay on the safe side and be professional and also not risk offending them since english is not my first language. What would be best to write in this case?

I had my sibo under control for a while with various protocols but it seems like nothing is working anymore. my symptoms were tolerable for a while, bloating was 2/10 instead of 8/10 as usual, then suddenly things went crazy over the past few weeks

Bloating went back up to like 7/10 with seemingly no trigger or cause. For months I had normal and healthy BM that overnight turned into chronic diarrhea and also a lot of gas and discomfort.

I also gained an insane amount of weight. last wednesday i weighed 141 lbs and today im almost 150. it really came out of nowhere. ik it is all from bloating and inflammation but that still seems incredibly fast. it also happened suddenly at exactly the same time as the increase in diarrhea/bloating/gas so i know it is related but idk what caused it. at my heaviest since i got sibo i was 165 lbs so at least im not there yet but im worried it will continue to get worse unless i manage to get it under control again.

does anyone know how to bring this sudden weight gain back down?
