I built a free momentum trading simulator to train pattern recognition — inspired by Qullamaggie's method
Hey everyone,
I've been studying Qullamaggie's breakout methodology for a while and wanted a way to practice pattern recognition without risking real money or cherry-picking setups.
So I built Candlr — a historical trading simulator where you screen the market on any date, analyze charts day by day, and trade with virtual capital. It pulls real historical data, so you're practicing on actual setups, not randomized noise.
What it does:
- Screen hundreds of stocks with momentum filters (ADR, 3M performance, 52W high proximity, volume)
- Candle-for-candle chart replay with MA10/20/50/200 and relative volume
- Automatic trade journal with win rate, R:R and equity curve
- QQQ shown alongside every chart as market context
Note: Candlr is built specifically for daily chart traders — all charts are end-of-day data, which keeps the focus on swing trading setups rather than intraday noise.
After training extensively on it, I built up a consistent 68-73% win rate with 2.5-5:1 R:R across hundreds of simulated setups. More importantly, that seems to be transferring to live trading — I hit +16% on my live account in June, during what was a pretty choppy and difficult month for momentum stocks. I attribute a lot of that to the pattern recognition built from thousands of simulated setups in Candlr.
It's completely free. Would love feedback from people who actually trade this style.
