What can i do?
I went to a psychologist today to get evaluated for ADHD. I first became interested in ADHD when I was young and remember going down a rabbit hole suspecting I might have it. I'm only getting evaluated now, at 15, because my parents recently agreed to let me get tested.
I initially saw a psychiatrist, who referred me to a psychologist for a more detailed assessment. I finished my appointment today, but some of what he said has been bothering me.
He told me I can't have ADHD because I've always gotten good grades and seems to be leaning more toward anxiety. Is that actually true?
He also said inattention and daydreaming can be managed without medication, implying "you have complete control over your mind" I find that questionable because, from my experience, daydreaming feels involuntary. It happens randomly every day, even when I'm actively trying to pay attention.
He also doesn't recommend medication because of potential side effects, though he didn't clarify what they are. From what I've seen, they seem manageable and would depend on the medication and dosage, so l'm confused by what he's saying.
I'm going back in a couple of weeks for an ADHD assessment/questionnaire. He said it'll take around three hours or less and involve some sort of test. Is that a common practice? What should i expect?
Idk if i can get a second opinion because my parents are very ignorant of ADHD since I've always been seen as a "normal and smart" kid who gets good grades. Of course, they took what my psychologist said as gospel, so now they literally won't hear me out on anything.
That's what makes this frustrating. these difficulties have become increasingly harder to manage as i get older. My grades are starting to worsen, and I'm worried this could become much worse in college. I wanted to get tested now because I genuinely feel like something is wrong
Obviously, no one here can tell me if i have ADHD or not hell he might be correct, i really just want to know what to do next
(Yes I'm from the Philippines, I'm only sharing a post i sent in r/ADHD here.)
