Is 1-2% shares in a 4 year vest a low amount?

I’m joining an early-stage startup on the side alongside my normal job. They have a working web product that’s mobile responsive, but no native mobile app or dedicated mobile expertise.

I’d own mobile - initially adapting the existing product to meet App Store requirements and launch on iOS/Android. From there I’d own the mobile experience and features, work with designers, track key metrics and help decide what we build next. We’d regularly demo, get feedback and report progress against the metrics we own.

Longer term I’d lead a proper Flutter app. They intend to build multiple apps, so the equity is in the whole company.
The offer is around 1-2%, vesting over 4 years, with no salary for now. The founder wants to keep equity fairly thin initially, but has said if the core engineering team stays small, he’d rather give us more equity, with further grants also based on performance.

I’m not a co-founder and the product already exists, so I’m trying to gauge what’s reasonable for this kind of role.

Edit: the intention is to get funding around January and I’d join full time with a matching salary.

Organise storage boxes with QR codes, built in spare time

I’ve been building a side project called Locrate for iOS and Android.

https://locrate.app

It’s an app for organising physical storage boxes/crates with QR codes so you can keep track of what’s inside, label boxes, and find things again without opening everything.

The basic idea is:

  • Create crates/boxes in the app
  • Add items to each one
  • Print QR labels for the boxes
  • Search for an item in the app and see which box it’s in
  • See where that box is stored, then use the QR code to locate it more easily

A big reason I built it is because my dad has loads of boxes in the loft and garage, and often just wants to find one thing without pulling everything down. That got me thinking there should be an easier way to search through one app, know which box something is in, where that box is, and use a QR code to make finding it simpler.

I originally started building it during evenings after work and when travelling. It’s still early, but the core workflow is there and I’d really like honest feedback from real people.

What I need help with:

  • First impressions
  • Is the setup flow clear?
  • Does the crate/item/QR workflow make sense?
  • What feels annoying or unnecessary?
  • What would make it genuinely useful enough to keep using?

If this sounds interesting and you’re happy to try an early version and give blunt feedback, I’d really appreciate it.

It's has been submitted to the stores for review and so it should be on the real iOS store soon.
