Regarding shoulder replacement in the next six months or so...

This is my first post to any of the forums dealing with shoulder pain/shoulder replacement surgery.

I am 69 years young, do not use tobacco/nicotine, 5'8" 180lbs, retired, right-hand dominant and remain very active, walking 3-5 miles 3 times a week and 3 days a week in the gym with program developed specifically for me by Exercise Physiologist. Unfortunately, I have severe DJD of my LEFT shoulder with half of the cartilage absent in the glenoid fossa, with bone on bone humeral head against the fleonoid fossa. Fortunately, my rotator cuff remains intact. I have had formal PT which I continue as part of my gym program; I have had two injections into the left shoulder and two into the left biceps tendon area, a total of four steroid injections each 3-6 months apart, within the past two years. The most recent injections gave no relief whatsoever.

I have seen Dr. Matthew Williiams of Lafayette LA. I did research, and he did a total shoulder fellowship at UT Health Sciences Center, and a second 'reverse total shoulder' fellowship in France. He specializes in shoulder replacement surgery, and recently completed the first robotic shoulder replacement in Louisiana. Dr. Williams explained that my 'bone on bone' was 'end-stage' osteoarthritis due to an injury years ago, or just bad luck and degenerative dissolution of the cartilage. I am looking at having the surgery sometime in January or early February, as some previously scheduled travels/obligations cannot be postponed or delayed.

I plan to continue my exercise regimen up until the time of surgery, especially working on shoulder support muscles and upper back/arm muscles.

Specifically, are there any members of these subreddits that are active in either freshwater or saltwater fly fishing? If so, how was your casting before and subsequently after the TSA? How long in weeks/months after the TSA were you able to return fully to an active fly fishing schedule?

Any and all information is appreciated.

Fly fishing after total shoulder replacement

Looking to sell collection

I have a taxidermy collection of:

Full-body mounts

2012 Yukon Dall Sheep

2013 Yukon Stone Sheep

2014 British Columbia Stone Sheep

2015 Yukon Stone Sheep (B&C net >161)

2016 Yukon Stone Sheep

2018 Idaho Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep (B&C net >185)

2018 Mexico Desert Bighorn Sheep (B&C net >174)

2023 Idaho California Bighorn Sheep

I am looking at down-sizing at our home in Central MS. We live in MS half the year, and in Bozeman MT half the year. I have several shoulder mounts that I would like to keep, but the above-listed taxidermy is something that I would consider selling. All the taxidermy work was done by Zimmerman Brothers in Pennsylvania and all specimens are in pristine condition. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone have experience with buying/selling such collections?

Post-Saltwater trip: reel inspection

I have seen videos of the "Triangle Sports HD 140" and the "SC125". These show how to load backing and line on a fly reel, and also on spinning reels and open-face casting/trolling reels for deep-sea fishing.

I have not seen a video as to 'un-spooling' a fly reel for complete inspection of the 'naked/bare' SALTWATER FLY REEL. On the evening of the last day of our trip down to Xcalak, after the guides rinsed the rods/reels, I too my gear back to my room. There, in the shower, I stripped off all the WF fly line and maybe 50yds of backing from each reel, then plugged the shower drain, and soaped down the reels/rods, rinsed them and let them dry on a towel on the bed under the ceiling fan. I'm OCD so I'm about to unwind them completely to inspect the inside 'down to the axle', but would like to have info on the best way to 'un-spool and re-spool' my fly reels.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
