Independent guide tipping Xcalak

I’m fishing five days with an independent guide in xcalak for $350/day. One guide, not two. Any thought about tipping? In the Bahamas I do $100/day but the price is more than double.

El coco

My family has booked a trip to El Coco next March and I’d love to have my first saltwater experience while I am there. Most charters I see are trolling, live bait, etc. Anyone know of other charters that offer fly fishing? Ideally both as some family members would want to use traditional tackle.

Do saltwater fisherman use the reel to reel in fish?

I have recently moved to the Ms gulf coast and would like to try some saltwater fly fishing. I got to wondering since the fish are bigger and stronger, do saltwater fly fisherman use reels to reel in their catch?

Freshwater Setup with Minor Saltwater Use

Hey all, hoping for some help on gear info/recommendations. I’ve recently been debating getting something a little larger than my 5wt trout rod for larger streamers and bigger fish like steelhead and bull trout. I was looking for something that I could use no problem in salt water and found a barely used Echo Boost Blue 7wt on eBay for a pretty good deal so I snagged it while I had the chance.

I’ll be mostly using this setup for freshwater species (steelhead, bull trout, bass, carp, etc.) but also have some family in Washington that live on the Puget Sound so I figure I can take it with when I visit and try to get some sea run Cutthroat and Coho or other smaller Salmon.

Im thinking I’ll probably get a Lamson Liquid/Remix with the extra spools so I can get a full sink, intermediate, and floating line but I’m also interested in the Redington Behemoth and Echo Bravo as they seem to be good for slightly larger fish. If I went with one of those two, I could pick up a couple of the SA regulator spools for storing and switching out my lines easily.

Some questions I’m looking to answer and/or get recommendations for:

  1. Good reels for application

  2. Do I need to buy specialized saltwater lines for use in the salt or will I be fine with a regular freshwater line as long as it’s for cold water and I make sure to rinse it after saltwater use?

  3. If I get all saltwater lines, can I still use them in freshwater without any issues?

  4. Lines that pair well with the Echo Boost Blue? From the reading I’ve done, it seems like the rod likes to be overlined with 8wt or even 9wt lines

I have also added a couple pictures of some of my better catches for y’all to hopefully appreciate and keep this a little more interesting

Any good spots to wade in the Golden Isles GA Area?

I’ve lived now on the coast of Georgia for 3 years, finally got it to where my kids are old enough I can take a little bit of time to go fishing again. And even more important take my son, does anyone know of any decent spots I can go to and work my fly rod for reds or trout?
