W3D3 slowed a bit

Today was another 5k run. Literally in the plan, it was for 3.1mi.

The struggle to make myself slow down was real. I finished that first mile and was like "if you don't speed up you're time will be slower today". And then I reminded myself I wasn't in a race. I didn't need to go slower. In fact, because I just did a 5k yesterday, I really needed to go easy today.

While today was slower, I feel good about that. I needed to slow down. Now, if the rain could just do the same lol.

Tomorrow will be a rest day. Followed by a recovery run and then a long run (3.7mi) to finish the week. Skipping the speed run this week simply because everything is flooded outside.

W3D2 an emotional one

It's week 3 of 10k training. I made day 1 a rest day, and did the first run today. I went through so many emotions.

First, I did my run because I was just really mad and I knew running would help me get out of head. But then before I started, I hit the opposite end and suddenly had zero motivation.

Today's scheduled run was 25 minutes. I told myself no watching the clock, or my pace. Today it didn't matter. Today I just needed to expel the negative energy building up. 25 minutes was all I needed to give.

So when I hit my first mile and my average pace was 13:10, I was shocked. I honestly thought I was going slower than that. And then I finished the 2nd mile in 10:26, before the 25 minute run was due to end. At this point I decided to run until I either hit 5k, or my legs were done. Whatever came first. It was the 5k distance.

Still, I didn't check my final time until after I got outside to cool down (it's pouring rain, I used my treadmill). I honestly cried. Because not only did I PR again, but I did that with zero amounts of walking. I have been adding a walk interval here and there in all my runs. The idea was to walk so I didn't fatigue and slow down.

Y'all, my best time had ZERO walking πŸ₯Ή This is the progress I didn't think I was capable of. The progress I never anticipated if I'm being honest.

End of week 2 10k training

Finished a little late. Honestly I didn't want to do it. And then I was tempted to quit half way through. And it really didn't help that the Nike app wasn't tracking anymore. I forgot to change it back to indoor running 😐 my watch hit the first 1 mile mark and I couldn't figure out why my phone had been silent.

Hit a new PR though. A minute faster than last week. πŸ™Œ I love that I'm getting faster. But I swear if I end up slower at my 5k race I will cry. Just 2 weeks to get. The 10k race isn't until July.

W2D5 hills again 😭

I don't know why I thought I should run the hills on a recovery run after doing speed intervals yesterday 😐 but I did it. I thought I was going to quit before actually finishing. Literally told myself I was done, and planned to just jog home and stop the run. Except I was apparently on the last stretch when I made the turn back onto my road and finished with enough time to do a walk cool down.

I ran the hills so I didn't have to run the gravel. Which was dumb because I kept running on the side road gravel anytime I heard a car approaching on my side πŸ˜‚ that left me in the gravel more than the road.

Made it home, finished up my lemon muffins for my 11 year old's Poetry Cafe tomorrow. And now resting before heading out for the high school music concert.

Also, I didn't even realize my vest was twisted until I took my end of run photo πŸ˜…

I hate speed runs πŸ˜‚

I am not a fan of speed runs lol. Last week I did it on the treadmill and it wasn't too bad. But today it was on my gravel road 😬 it was either that or the hills I was running and no thanks to speed + hills.

But, got it done. I'm going to take a nap now lol

Day 3, rest day 😬

Supposed to be a rest day, but decided to do strength training on my rest days. Still fairly light work, and not any strain on my legs like running would do.

Started with walking the 2 tiny dogs. I bought a belt just for them. It was nice to be hands free. They both enjoyed the road walking so much that neither realized I forgot the treats πŸ˜‚

Got them home and then did the rest of my plan. I'm going to need to look up some modified versions of a few exercises until I get into the groove of things.

Now I'm off to get some yard work done.

W2D2 with hills 😬

Week 2 Day 2 of 10k training.

Walked the length of our gravel road for the warmup. It is almost a half mile from my house to the start of the road. And then ran out on the "main" road.

When I finished I had a moment of feeling disappointed that it felt a little tough and I was slightly slower than my indoor run. And then I realized I was running a hill. It was all inclines both directions. I'm not as disappointed in my pace after realizing that. Plus it was hot (81Β°f). Even if there weren't hills I would have quickly gotten over the disappointment because I got out there, and my pace is still improved anyways. I'm more focused on surviving the distance.

I don't know if you can see it, but it literally goes downhill and straight back uphill πŸ˜‚

I tackled hills and still kept a better pace than a month ago on flat surfaces πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

W2D1 of 10k training

Today was an easy recovery run, set for a simple 14 minutes. Crazy how my relaxed pace was closer to 13 minute mile than my usual 15 minutes πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm okay being slow. I am not worried about my pace. But it is nice to see it improve even a tiny bit. I'm more focused on training myself to manage the 10k distance without feeling like I'm trying to escape death πŸ˜‚

The plan has 5 days of runs, and 2 rest days. I can do this πŸ’ͺ

Tomorrow we are going outside! Hopefully the dentist doesn't call during my run πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚

Week 1 of 10k training done

Finished week one with a distance run. Was supposed to be 4k, but I went for the full 5k. I made it under 40 minutes πŸ™Œ I mean, barely. But a win is a win lol. I know this is slow. I know I'm still going to be slow for my 10k in July. I'm good with that. I'm moving and putting myself out there.

While I managed to breathe steady and through my nose the whole time, I know I should have gone slower. My shins were getting sore. Not sure I will ever get the right form πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‚ I don't feel exhausted though, so that's good.

Rest day tomorrow and onto week 2 Monday. Hope y'all don't mind I keep sharing my progress beyond c25k here.

Excuses are easy 😬

Y'all it is so easy for me to make excuses to not go do a run. Had a breakfast date with my oldest child, followed by some shopping. My nausea meds made me sleepy so I took a nap. Then it was after school activities and making dinner. And chasing chickens.

It all just kept piling on. Today's run for my 10k plan was speed intervals. I was dreading it because I had to use the treadmill. No thunderstorm runs for me 😬

But, I forced myself down to the treadmill. Had to take a wild guess to which speed would have me running my race pace, and I guessed correctly. Overall good run. I'm enjoying the guided runs on the NCR app, while ignoring it's recorded pace and distance because it has been way off.

Almost 9:30pm and I think I'm gonna relax in bed with a book. I just realized I've been sitting here for 10 minutes with only one sock on πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Today was day 2 of 10k training. Was meant to be an easy recovery run of just 9 minutes and 15 seconds. Such a weird time frame for a run, but I'm sort of rolling with it lol.

I set my watch to treadmill tracking today. I jogged for 10 minutes, then upped the incline and alternated walking and jogging over the next 20 minutes. While I worked up a sweat, it felt great and not hard.

Tomorrow is a rest day. And following that is speed run intervals. I'm hoping the weather is appropriate enough to go outdoors. I've never done speed runs, so that will be fun to learn lol

Happy Wednesday friends 🫢

Been a week since my last run, and that was for the 5k race. Just been having a hard time with health. Decided to force myself to at least get 20 minutes in today. And honestly once I got going, I felt fine. I love how running, even at my slug pace, helps me forget about my chronic nausea.

Also tried out the Nike Run Club app. That coach was too motivational for me πŸ˜‚ I also learned I can not trust the app to track from my phone if I'm wearing loose shorts. Because there is no way I hit a 10 minute mile pace at any point of my treadmill run. It has my average pace as 12:03 while my watch says 14:37. I'm going with my watch this time lol

I'm hoping for either another 20 minute run this evening, or 20ish minute incline walking. It's pouring rain and I'm not a fan of cold showers 🀣

Also, I kept the display covered on my treadmill. Crazy how much easier it is to run when I can't see a timer or check my phone. Didn't look at my watch except the one time I got a text.

So, admittedly through this whole journey and then some, I have done nothing on my off days. I'm still running with a rest day in between.

I know I should be doing some sort of strength training in between, but I get so lost. Are there any follow along videos? I would have much better luck with something like that versus trying to Google and then tried piecing it together myself.

I need to do more than lifting mini donuts while watching my roly-poly bugs lol Please help.

Today my youngest asked me if we could hit the trail and go for a run. I've been waiting for him to ask to join me again. During our run he said he wants to be able to run races with me too.

I started him on day 1 of the c25k. We did cut it short because he still wanted to run too fast. But, considering it was day 1 he did great. We managed a mile of run walk run before he asked if we could call it. And considering my shins are still recovering from Saturday I was also ready πŸ˜‚

He stayed ahead of me a bit the whole time, so no idea what his pace is or anything. He doesn't care about that. But enjoy my own up and down stats lol
