This is the North American wheel bug. Found him sucking the life out of a mid-stage lanternfly this evening. It’s nice to know I’m not out there fighting the battles all by myself!
Yet I will not surrender. My trusty fly swatter and I are good for about a 75% kill rate. Yet the lantern flies keep coming. I know it's a futile exercise. They will win the war of attrition. But I will defend my deck as best as I can even though they just will not stop coming. The enemy is squishy yet relentless.
I am a veteran of the great stink bug invasion of about twenty years ago. The difference was that they got inside the house, and they, well, stank when you smushed them. That was worse yet we somehow survived.
I do not know what the eventual outcome will be this time. We may end up buried in these little black and white and red bastards. But I will fight on to the last.
I’ve been going to a brand new store near me and they have no Drake’s - Devil Dogs, Ring Dings, Yodels, etc. I thought it was just a stocking oversight with it being a new store and all, but I just went to another store and they didn’t have them either. Is this chain-wide now?
