We've turned off automatic private picture requests

We heard you, and you were right.

The automatic private album request test (the one that sent a request the moment you liked someone, without you choosing to) should never have been added to the app. Several of you described being made to look creepy or sexually aggressive without ever intending to, and that's the biggest problem with the feature.

We've turned it off. The change is rolling out today, and the feature will be fully stopped for all users by the end of the day. If you're still seeing automatic requests go out, wait a bit - it will stop soon.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in about this. The feedback works.

How to report someone on Taimi and what happens next?

Sometimes users need to be reported, whether that's for hate speech, spam, being underage, etc. But what actually happens when you report someone?

You can report a user's entire profile or just part of it. The option to report someone's entire profile can be found at:

  • the ellipsis on their public or private photo and video cards,
  • the safety icon in the top-right corner of the thread
  • by long-tapping and swiping on their conversation in your Chats list.

To report part of their profile rather than the whole thing, scroll to the very bottom of the profile and tap Report. You'll be able to choose between the entire profile, their bio, or another part of the profile. To report a single message, long-tap it in the thread.

We'll ask you to select the reason for the report. After that, we'll ask you to provide details and tick some boxes to ensure that the information and allegations that you've provided are accurate and complete. If you're reporting a message, an additional screen will pop up, showing a list of reasons for reporting. Don't worry, we will never tell the user that you've reported them.

Every report is reviewed by a real person on our moderation team. If our moderators confirm that the reported user has, in fact, committed a violation, we will ban them. They have six months from the date of their ban to initiate an appeal.

Our list of valid reasons to report someone's entire profile includes, but is not limited to, offensive or hate speech, abuse or harassment, asking for money, sending spam, being underage, having a fake profile, requesting personal info, deceptive misrepresentation, and objectification or fetishization. Reports about a specific card, bio or message have their own tailored lists of reasons.

Our goal is to keep our community safe, and reporting harmful materials or hate speech that has slipped past our detectors is a good way to keep it that way. We don't browse your private conversations, but when you report a message, it's shared with our moderators so they can act on it. So if somebody is being horrible in your DMs, report them and let us deal with it.

Is there a type of behavior you think should be reportable that isn't currently on the list?

Like + Message on Taimi. What is it and how it works?

When you like someone on Taimi, you can add a short icebreaker to that like. That's Like + Message - a way to give your like more context and give the other person something to respond to. Messages are pre-made by the app, and sometimes the options might change to give you more variety.

How it works

You send a like with a note attached. The person you liked can see your message in their Chats tab, but you won't see that thread until they match with you. Until a match happens, it's a one-way conversation: they can read what you wrote, but you can't send follow-up messages.

A few other things worth knowing

Like + Message is free - it uses a regular like action, no special balance required. The receiver can match with you or ignore the message. If they have a Premium plan, they can reply to your message without matching with you on the People tab.

Have you ever sent a Like + Message? Did it lead to a match?

What changed on Taimi in July

Here's everything we shipped this month.

1. A calmer email inbox

We've reduced how often we send round-up emails to members who've been on Taimi for a while. You'll hear from us when it actually matters.

2. Smarter nudges when someone's nearby

If you haven't finished setting up your profile and there are people near you, we'll give you a friendly heads-up so you don't miss a potential match.

3. Faster, more reliable messages

We’ve fixed minor issues in the Messages tab, and the little icebreaker messages that go out with your likes are sent exactly as intended.

4. A cleaner Likes & Matches experience

We ironed out several rough edges on the Likes and People tabs. No more repeat pop-ups, smoother "Get More Matches," and no unnecessary location prompts.

Bigger updates coming in August, so keep following!

Profile Reset on Taimi - what it does and when to use it

Profile Reset is essentially a "start fresh" button. It clears your entire dating history on Taimi (matches, messages, and likes) but leaves your account untouched. Your photos, bio, age, and gender all stay exactly as they are. It's for when you want to rediscover the app without creating a new account.

Where to find it
Settings → Account → Reset account

It's free for everyone.

What gets deleted

  • All your matches - removed for both people
  • All chats - removed for both people
  • All likes sent and received

The other person isn't notified. They don't get a "so-and-so unmatched you" alert or any explanation. It just disappears silently, the same way a chat would drop off.

One thing worth knowing before you tap it: this can't be undone. Deleted matches and messages don't come back, so it's worth being sure before you go through with it.

Has anyone here used Profile Reset? Curious what brought you to it and whether it felt worth it.

How Taimi In-Person works: finding LGBTQ+ events and spaces near you

Taimi In-Person feature lets you find real-life LGBTQ+ events and queer-owned venues near you, not just matches on a screen. It's currently available only in the US.

You can get to Taimi In-Person from several places in the app: the People tab, Likes, Trending Now, or your Messages tab. Each has an In-Person button that takes you to the HQ screen.

The HQ screen shows available events near you. Featured events appear at the top with a larger image and an attendance count. Each event card shows the title, date, time, location, and a save button. Some events have exclusive Taimi promo codes - these appear with a "Special Offer" tag.

To RSVP, open the event, tap Join, then scroll to the Register button. This opens an external link - Taimi doesn't handle ticketing directly, so you'll complete registration there. To leave an event, use the menu → "Leave event." Saving an event marks you as Interested without registering you.

The Places tab shows LGBTQ+ venues that partner with Taimi. Some provide exclusive offers for Taimi users and are marked with the Special Offer badge. Places are sorted by distance, and each card shows a name, distance, image, save button, an optional promo code badge, and a rating. Tap any place to see its description and opening hours.

Find everything you've saved via the bookmark icon in the upper right of the In-Person screen.

If you're in the US and have used In-Person, what kinds of events or spaces have you found through it?

How Instant Chat works on Taimi

Instant Chat (the green message icon in the middle) lets you send a message to someone without a match. It immediately opens a real two-way thread.

New users in eligible markets get 3 free Instant Chats. After that, you can buy them as bundles or choose unlimited Instant Chats as a Gold+ perk.

If you're the sender

Sending an Instant Chat uses one from your balance. A thread opens in your messages tab with an "Instant Chat" badge, and you can keep messaging in that thread for free after that. It also counts as a like and toward your daily action limit. If the person has already liked you, it triggers a match, but your Instant Chat is still used either way.

If you're the receiver

You'll see the thread appear with the "Instant Chat" badge and the sender's first message. You're not obligated to respond - you can continue the chat or decline it. Declining deletes the thread, but the sender's like stays in your Incoming Likes.

Have you used Instant Chat? Curious whether people find it useful or prefer simple messaging after a match.

Where Taimi's privacy settings are located, and what each one does

If you want to control who sees your profile, filter unwanted media in DMs, or hide personal details like your age, location, or sexuality, it's all in one place: Edit profile → Profile Security.

Here's what each setting does:

Profile Control

You can hide your gender, age, location, sexuality, or the Taimi In-Person events you're planning to attend. Useful if you're selectively out, or if you'd rather share that information only once you're already talking to someone.

Stealth Mode

When it's turned on, your profile appears only in the feeds of people you've already liked. You browse normally, but you're not visible to everyone else on the app.

Account Safety

When on, media that may contain NSFW/sensitive content is shown normally. When off, such images/videos are blurred until you choose to reveal them.

In-Thread Media Control

Protects you from unsolicited photos or videos in your DMs. With this on, anyone who wants to send you media has to request permission first. Nothing comes through until you approve it.

_________

Are there safety settings you rely on that aren't obvious to find, or anything you wish the app had? Drop it below.
