We've turned off automatic private picture requests

We heard you, and you were right.

The automatic private album request test (the one that sent a request the moment you liked someone, without you choosing to) should never have been added to the app. Several of you described being made to look creepy or sexually aggressive without ever intending to, and that's the biggest problem with the feature.

We've turned it off. The change is rolling out today, and the feature will be fully stopped for all users by the end of the day. If you're still seeing automatic requests go out, wait a bit - it will stop soon.

Thank you to everyone who wrote in about this. The feedback works.

Taimi is forcing me to be a creep/chaser instead of just being social

Just spoke with support because out of the 20-odd matches I have, only 3 of them were ones I actually liked. Not only this, but the app is automatically forcing me to instantly ask everyone for nudes/private images. After dealing with the roundabout of the AI support, I was helped by someone. I had already disabled auto message and the other automation features. the conversation is as follows:

OP:
The app is also auto-requesting people’s private photos?

Support:
Regarding your second concern, you are currently part of a test where, when a user is liked, an automatic Private Card request is sent. At the moment, there’s no option to turn off this feature.

I’d like to note that this is not an official change but part of a test we recently launched. Whether this feature remains will depend on the test results, which is why we highly value and take into account all user feedback.

I’ll be right back to update you on your initial concern.

Thank you for your patience, OP. After checking thoroughly, it looks like this is related to the Curated Batch feature.

Unfortunately, there may be times when you will not notice that you accidentally enabled this feature. If that happens, a batch of Curated Likes will be sent on your behalf.

Of course, you can absolutely prevent this from happening in the future; just be on the lookout the next time the screen pops up so these likes aren’t accidentally sent again.

OP:
I have made absolutely sure not to select curated batch, because I have no desire to like profiles I haven’t seen.

With respect, I can also certainly say that this test-feature is not going to be one people want. Creating a dedicated feature curated to asking for private photos without even saying hello is insulting and gross. It’s also completely unreasonable that I should be forced to play the role of such behavior and not have the option to opt out of the test.

I appreciate you looking into this but I *will* be deleting my account moving forward.

I want to say that, while I have been explicitly careful to not touch the Curated Batch notifications, I am humble enough to admit when I am wrong. It's entirely possible I selected yes without knowing to one of the prompts, but I also feel like 3:20 is a questionable ratio for it to have been only one batch. I've only used this app for about 5 hours and installed it two days ago.
EVEN IF I accidentally accepted a Curated batch, that's still 20 people I've now suddenly requested nudes from without even greeting or talking to. I feel disgusted, and looking through other reddit posts, a moderator for this subreddit did confirm elsewhere that this test-feature is only disabled (again, automatically and with no notice to anyone) for accounts marked as Ace or Aro. It shouldn't be a feature at all, and we should if nothing else be able to decline participation in the test batch. Poor design choice, poor execution.

Tired of 60+ year old men messaging me

To Taimi Staff,

I am back on the apps after a long break, and I saw that you cannot modify age without paying. I don't mean to be abrasive, but I think this is a really bad move on your end for a number of reasons. I'm in my mid-20s, and I feel uncomfortable and creeped out by men older than my parents messaging me, seeing my face, and relative location. Also, it's a foolproof way to ruin self-esteem in young people. I understand you need to monetize your app, and I also understand that it is really difficult to make a profit, but there has got to be a better way than gatekeeping the age filter. I hope you can sort something out.

Biphobia is still an issue in queer dating. Do you agree?

In advance of Bisexual Awareness Week coming next month, we wanted to do a little digging on how bisexuals navigate queer dating. What did we find? Biphobia is still a major issue for all bi+ folks, and it’s keeping people closeted.

For bisexual women, the general closeness of friendships with women and the fetishization of lesbian relationships leads a lot of them to question whether their attraction is real or if they’re simply performing it to impress men. We don’t need to explain why that’s problematic; it speaks for itself. Some bisexual women also report biphobia on dating apps designed for queer women.

It’s just as challenging for bisexual men, and in some ways, it’s even harder for them. Bisexuals are one of the most closeted groups in the LGBTQ+ community, and bi men are even more closeted than bi women. There are a few reasons for that, although the most significant is that women largely don’t want to date bisexual men because of negative stereotypes and assumptions, such as the assumption that they’re more likely to cheat or won’t be satisfied in a relationship with a woman. Bi men have reported being terrified to come out to their wives for fear of them taking issue with their sexuality, and their fears are unfortunately not unfounded. Others have reported that as soon as they come out, they receive less interest on dating apps.

The challenges that bi people face when they come out have led to large numbers of them still hiding themselves. According to research done in 2023, only 20% of bisexual people were out to all of their family members, which is three times less than gay men or lesbians. And the judgment isn’t coming exclusively from straight people: bi people are in a position where gay men and lesbians think they’re too straight or won’t date them because of the fear that they’re “just experimenting,” and straight people won’t date them because they see them as “gay, but haven’t realized it yet.”

For the bi people out there, do you relate? What struggles have you faced as a bi person trying to date people of different genders or sexualities?

This AI auto-message shit is ridiculous

Obviously I turned it off for myself, but I have absolutely zero interest in getting AI auto-messages and AI auto-matches from other people. Just clogs up my already previously chaotic inbox, makes it harder to find what was a genuine match or connection, and above all an absolute pain to navigate. I'm not even against AI when it's actually useful, but it currently is the opposite for my experience on the app.

Why can I swipe yes on some people but not others?

In the people tab, sometimes I'm allowed to swipe yes on someone, but other people when I swipe yes it brings me to a sign up screen. I don't understand why some people are different. Any ideas?

Banned before I could even finish sign up 😭

I became 18 afew months ago and decided to try taimi. Put in my basic information and then got hit with this. Tried to appeal since I didn't even do anything yet and they rejected the appeal.

Didn't give me a reason just told me I violated T&C even though I didn't.

What can I do now?😢
