Canada Soccer has appointed a 24 year old Harvard grad as its “Director of Technical Development”

Anyone know anything more about this guy and his background?

I have no problem with hiring young, forward-thinking people, but woof look at that list of responsibilities … that’s a massive, massive, critically important management role for a guy who graduated undergrad two years ago and doesn’t seem to have much relevant experience beyond joining Canada Soccer as a consultant one year ago. I looked at his LinkedIn and I’m sure he’s a bright young fellow, but this seems pretty outside the box.

I guess we’re strapped for cash and betting on him being some sort of brilliant mind?

Here’s a TSN article that mentions his age:

Any puncture in the legend of Azteca is good for Canadian soccer in my books!

How do you feel about the result? Happy? Upset? Don’t care?

Admittedly, I do feel a bit bad for the non-piss throwers and the friendly Mexican people in Canada.

But mostly I hope this is a big blow to the fortress and we can notch a win there during qualifiers.

Jonathan David copium

Watching the Uzbekistan game, I was straining to remember the last time I saw David have a “wow” performance for Canada. The kind of performance you would expect someone with his professional pedigree to at least occasionally have against evenly matched or weaker opponents.

Is it as far back as the Qatar qualifiers? He was a non factor at the World Cup. I know he scored a big goal for us in Copa, but I don’t think anyone looked at that tournament and thought we were getting the best out of him. It’s great he can knock in the penalties in friendlies, but again I don’t think anyone looks at the past year and thinks Canada is getting the optimal performance out of him.

I remember a game during the Qatar qualifiers, I think it was the game against the USA in Hamilton, where everyone was thinking holy cow this kid is a monster. Without Alphonso playing, he was on a different level than everyone else on the pitch. I remember thinking, “I get the hype”. Can’t remember the last time I’ve seen that guy in a Canadian kit.

Feels to me like 4 years now of “the manager needs to figure out how to get more out of him”. I don’t think I should be more excited to see Promise David on the pitch but I am.

Please people give me some copium for why I’m wrong, and David is going to have a big impact on this tournament. Because right now, I feel like “Canadian superstar Jonathan David” is more a theoretical concept than something we can expect to see at the World Cup.
