Been building a browser-based tabletop platform called TalesNTokens over the last few months and recently added a public sandbox/demo.

One of the biggest things I wanted was making battlemaps feel interactive instead of static:

- Toggle roofs/floors during play

- Open and close doors/windows

- Automatic dynamic lighting generated directly from maps

- Edit maps directly in-browser

- Shared-table/mobile support

Trying to make something that works smoothly across phones, tablets, TVs, laptops, etc without installs or complicated setup.

Would genuinely love feedback from people heavily into battlemaps/VTTs.

TalesNTokens - Build Maps And Play Live From Any Device — Interactive Browser VTT - Early Bird Founder Access just opened

TL;DR — I’m a solo developer building a mobile-first and FREE browser VTT called TalesNTokens with interactive maps, automatic dynamic lighting, live rooms, companion mode, and integrated map building. It works across ALL devices including mobile, tablets, laptops, TVs, and shared table setups with multiple connected devices working together in the same session.

I’ve now added a public sandbox/demo so people can try the platform directly in-browser without needing an invite code first, and Early Bird Founder access has just opened ahead of Kickstarter.

After years of running games across multiple tools, tabs, apps, and devices, I started building the VTT I personally wanted to use.

It’s called TalesNTokens.

The platform combines:

  • Interactive maps
  • Live multiplayer rooms
  • Browser-based map building
  • Character tools
  • Automatic dynamic lighting
  • Multi-storey building control
  • Mobile-first support
  • Companion mode for shared-table play
  • Interactive doors/windows/roofs
  • Toggleable building floors during play
  • Automatic dynamic lighting imported from maps
  • Live collaborative rooms
  • Browser map editing
  • Mobile + desktop support
  • Persistent online saves

A few things I’ve focused heavily on:

  • Building and running sessions from anywhere without needing installs or complicated setup

    • Works directly in the browser
    • Designed for mobile/tablet support from the start
    • Shared table companion mode for in-person sessions
  • Making maps feel interactive instead of static

    • Open/close doors and windows during play
    • Toggle roofs and floors on the fly
    • Automatic dynamic lighting generated directly from maps
  • Keeping everything together in one platform

    • Maps, rooms, character tools, and sessions connected together
    • Persistent online saves accessible from any device
    • Community-driven development with direct feedback shaping features

One of the biggest goals is keeping the platform community-driven instead of investor-driven.

The long-term plan is keeping the core VTT free to use, with users only paying for additional storage if they personally need more space, while a community-driven marketplace helps support server and maintenance costs over time instead of aggressively locking core features behind subscriptions.

The site uses real screenshots and GIFs recorded directly from the actual platform itself, no AI

Early Bird Founder access is mainly intended for people who want to help shape the platform early, gain access to the live beta launch at discounted founder pricing before Kickstarter, join the Discord community, and participate in early testing/feedback as development continues.

If you’d like to check out the sandbox, support the launch, or just give feedback:
