Newer hermit crab owner here. We've owned hermit crabs for about 3 months and sadly have lost two of our babies within the last month. Both were found out of their shells. One i found alive and tried to do the protocol for but he wouldn't re enter and the other I didn't catch in time because he was under the wheel and I couldnt see him :( its a 55 gal tank and stays at 89% humidity (its 79% in the pic because I had to move some stuff around in the tank to find and remove the dead crab) and ranges 77° F to 80° F for temp. Substrate is 7 in deep. The top of sand is dry but just under it is damp. Crabs do not come out very often. i have 2 who are sometimes active at night but most of them i rarely see. I always provide fresh food lots of protein, veggies, fruits, oils, etc. There are 4 small crabs in the tank currently. 2 under the sand and 2 above ground. No idea what the issue is but I dont want to lose more babies. please help! Not looking to get attacked I'm new to this and trying to make things better. Thank you!
