How are my odds of approval?
Apply or wait?
Wait and build or apply?
I’ve been waiting to apply for a NCU flagship card for a while now. My credit took a dive about a year ago, just went through my 30% and held it too high for too long. This past weekend I applied for a NCU savings and deposited $5 there. I tried tot “pre approval” just for s#it’s and giggles and was surprised to see they offered me every card they have available.
Here’s my story:
Income: $109,000 single, no kids
current scores: EX 670, TU 636, EQ 624
CU: 39% (will come down to 29% in a week after two big payments)
Late payments: 3 from 5 years ago that will fall off in Jan
Payment history: 99% (would be 100% without the 3 \\\^\\\^)
Hard INQ: 6 (2 will fall off in a couple months, 4 NY)
Credit mix: Apple Card, AMEX Plat, Discover, 3 CAP one(plat, qck silv, venture x), Mercury card, credit one, jewelry store card
Oldest card on file: two of the three CAP 1
Based on all that I’ve read in so many of the inquiries similar to mine. Most people have applied with 100% success and high CL based on TU scores being above 740, which is what it sounds NCU uses - not Experian. My scores (particularly TU) will rise to 729 within the next couple of months as I pay down about 6k of debt. Ultimately, I want to rid myself of ALL capital one products as they suck and have not treated me well as a consumer. I know I’ll have to keep at least the two as I’ve had them for well over 11 years now. I also want to get rid of discover, credit one, and mercury - keeping only the apple , AMEX PLT, and what I’d hope to hold NCU flagship.
My question is; should I take the risk and apply now or wait and continue to build my score within the next two months?
P.S. please don’t feel bad to be bluntly honest. I appreciate the feedback and knowledge as I want to grow my portfolio to have higher CL’s.
