I just wanted to give a little hope to the folks starting their credit journey again or for the first time.

I opened up a secured card with a $500 limit last may. Used it a ton & paid the statement balance every month. At 6 months and 2 weeks they upgraded it to unsecured 3k limit. Again, using the card a ton and paying the statement balance every month-at the 6 month mark I asked for a CLI and they just approved it for 9k! So now I get 2% back. Nfcu has been great to me, it’s possible to come back from any situation & I wanna thank this sub for all the advice on my pledge loan, cd, and info I never knew before.

What are my chances for a debt consolidation loan?

I’m thinking about requesting a debt consolidation loan to pay off my credit card debt.

Amount Requesting - $16,000
Credit Score - 635/645 (Credit Karma)
Navy Member - Since Jan 2006
Direct Deposits Started around $3,000 to $3,500 a month in March.
Checking Account currently has a balance of $8,000+ currently.
Navy Federal Credit Card. $1,500 limit. Paid off every month.
I have 2 auto loans:
Car 1 is in my name and I pay for.
Car 2 is in my name and my son pays for it.

According to Credit Karma I have a 58% credit utilization and I want to get that down quick as possible.

One reason I think it jumped so high is my discover card went from $15k to 6k when capital one took over.

Also a lot of my debt was because of a health reason. Before the emergency I paid everything off.

Thanks for any feedback.

Fraud Alert

Today I got a call from 1-888-842-6328. They said they were the Navy federal fraud department. They said someone went to a branch and started a wire transfer for 19k to some gambling place on the east coast. They asked if I went to a branch today or have ever started a wire transfer to the place they mentioned. I told them no, and all of this seemed normal. But then they said the person bypassed the ID process at the bank and that someone at the branch may be working with the scammer to send the wire transfer. They mentioned a lot of details about the id machine at the bank and said it was similar to the airport. They said they let the fdic department know and they would be calling me. They said they wanted to confirm that nothing was taking place and asked me to log into the app and look at my balances and read them back to them. At this point I was suspicious. I told them I would go to a branch and deal with it. They tried to keep me on the phone and said even if I went to a branch, they would have to call back in because they don't deal with the technical end of things. I hung up at this point and went to a branch. The branch said they had no kind of fraud notes on my account and made sure I had all of the security measures in place. The scammer tried to call from another number, 1-806-672-4281.

Cash Rewards Plus - How to Redeem Cash to Account on App Now?

Can anyone explain how to get cash back to my checking account from the new rewards platform via the app? Before it was super simple in the app. Now it takes you to a separate platform from the app and I am not seeing a way to get my rewards deposited as cash to my checking account via this platform while using the NF App. The only option I see is to apply to card balance.

Approved!

I have been on a credit building journey the past two years. I saw a video for credit building that said do the credit strong $5000 trade line. And when it hits your trans union apply for the navy federal card. So I opened a checking and savings last month, using my grandfathers Navy service to get in. Then I waited for the credit strong to hit. I applied tonight at 1:11 am and was approved! 560 then. 709 fico 8. 701 trans union. I have come a long way and what win this feels like for me. I can not wait to see how this journey turns out with Navy Federal!

Internal Score

Does NFCU always send you your “internal score”? I was approved for a credit card one month ago, but never received anything in the mail letting me know what my internal score is with them. I applied through the app, and approval was instant. It’s not a big deal, more to satisfy my curiosity.

Car Loan Question

I don’t want to go through the hassle of possibly getting denied, so I’m asking here:

I need a car loan of 6K. I have a collection from 2023 that I plan to pay off within the next week or two, and I just started my job recently (I work 15 hours a week for $21 an hour) and I’m about to start another one (it will be around the same pay and will add and 15-20 hours to my work week.) I live with family, and I’m also in the national guard, so that’s roughly $400 extra a month? I don’t know how much they check into my background, so should I wait a month for a pay stub, or should I attempt to get a pre approval?

Is relationship banking with Navy Federal worth it when a CMA earns way more?

I’m 16 and been deep in a financial rabbit hole figuring out what accounts are actually worth having when I turn 18. Been with Navy Federal since 2024 and love what they offer especially the 2% cash back card at 14-18% interest but their savings and checking rates are hard to ignore compared to something like Fidelity CMA.

Not sure if I should keep my account open for the relationship and loans down the road or if it even makes sense to maintain both. Since I’ve been with them for a while I was also thinking about getting my first credit card through them. For those of you who have been members long term how do you balance Navy Federal with a high yield account and is the relationship actually worth keeping?

I got the letter that says those reasons ( in pic) today i woke up and the security deposit for my cash rewards returned (1K$) and my limit raised to 3K ! Which is good.
Now im wondering when should i apply for CLI ? And re apply for the flagship cause i don’t get the decline reasons tbh ( 275 internal score )

Navy Federal Credit Score

Hello,

I’ve been a Navy FCU member for 5 years. I have a checking account, debit card, savings, money market, two credit cards (GO & AMEX).

May I ask where how does my score ‘300’ place me in ranks and credit assessment?

As for financial stats, I have less than 5% debt owed and filed bankruptcy almost 10 years ago.

How can an existing member help improve themselves and their NFCU credit score for future products?

P.S. They denied my Flagship application and instead counteroffer me for another card, I accepted it as a result.

Please advise. Thank you!

Switching banks

ISO different opinions of those who have/had USAA and switched over to NavyFederal. Been thinking about it but want to hear others stories who made the switch.

Moving to NF

I’m looking to move from my bank to a credit union and Navy Fed is at the top of recommendations. I was not in the armed forces, but both my stepfather and grandfather (both have passed), served jn the Navy. How would I show familial relationship? I was my stepfathers power of attorney/executor, I don’t remember seeing any documents. His dog tags were the only this related to his service that I came across.

Any insight would be great!

2nd card

I have a AMEX MORE Rewards with an initial $500 CL limit. My 91/3 is next week. It was my first CC I’ve had in 20 years. I also have a savings account and sig checking which I deposit into to pay my CC-which I utilize like a debit card and strategize on usage based on tips in here. I also have another CU Visa I got about 6 months ago with a $500 limit that I’ve done the same thing with. Before I got these I had no credit history. Everything else looks great, I am sitting around 730 all based on my new credit. My plan is to apply for a new card next week, then the CLI immediately after that. Which card should I try for next? I want to use it for booking air, hotel and car this summer. Thanks!

Best timing to get my Spouse CC?

Im currently in the process of fixing my wives credit (Dont need help there) And Once I get her to a respectable score I want her to apply for a Undecured CC from NFCU.

She’s a full time mother so I am the only income in the house, But we have a joint account, so I’d hope they take my income as reliable income when considering her for a CC.

I was thinking of starting her on a Pledge loan to and slapping in a Certificate while im at it, pretty much help building her relationship with this bank while im actively paying off her debt.

⬇️⬇️The big question here is once I fix her credit and she has a clean record and good score, is that enough to confidently apply for a unsecured card or should I try building her relationship with NFCU before that?

And with that being said how much will her relationship with this bank affect her starting limit on a fresh CC vs Just going in with nothing but a Debit card in her name on a Joint Account?

She only has 1 hard inquiry on her credit report I really dont wanna add another hard inquiry just for her to get denied. Advice?

Auto loan or cash

I want to buy another vehicle I don’t plan on spending more than 12k I have the funds to pay cash but I’m thinking about adding to my profile and building relationship with Navy Fed

I have a completed pledge loan with them already and started another earlier this year and just got a credit card with them a month ago

I know getting a loan is just giving away money with the interest

Should I chill out and let all my cards and the pledge loan do the work?
