Very Interesting Credit Score

I checked today the day after 4th of July and my score is yes, 666. So needless to say I should try my hopes or "luck" for the 25k everyone has been getting.

But do you Navy Federal savants and genius' have any advice on when to apply for the NFCU Rewards AMEX?

Like best times to apply, early morning, late night? Other factors to consider? How much I have in savings or CD? Or does that matter?

Thanks yall. 🦾🇺🇲

TX & TN Member discount for insurance

I recently saved $500 each month on my auto insurance thanks to my membership with Navy Federal Credit Union. It appears that we receive a discount through Liberty Mutual Insurance. After contacting a local Liberty Mutual agent in Texas, he was able to align my coverages, resulting in a $500 reduction in my monthly rate! My fellow Nacy FC members, Google Liberty Mutual Insurance and find yourself a good rating agent in TX. Thank me later!

Help me understand

Ive been getting great approval odds for the Flagship, AMEX and Platinum. Member for 5-6 years, great credit profile, checking, savings, direct deposit, pledge loan with them, 752 vantage 3 score and 831 FICO. I’ve been studying all of the approvals in here for a few months and finally felt like all my ducks were in a row to shoot my shot and now this. Very discouraging.

Any Advice Appreciated (Navy Federal Debt - Hardship, Settlement, or ?)

I'm 25 and have around 23k in debt with Navy Federal. Some devastating things have happened in my life; Covid killed my better paying job, head gasket blew and I had to sell my car for $500, and lastly elbow surgery. I just graduated college and want to kill this hole entirely. Any advice on what to do to remedy my situation would be greatly appreciated; just please don't waste my time and yours with judgement. I'm far from family, have been trying to manage surgery, loss of my job, and everything that comes with pushing through school; I'm trying my best.

My credit score is now 625. It was well over 700 for years until I missed three payments the same month around 2 years ago. I was going through a really difficult time.

All three of the payments were pure mistakes; For two of the payments, (a missed CC and car payment) I got a new debit card, and simply forgot to enable autopay on the new card; I COULD'VE paid for them at the time just missed the deadlines on accident so that's two dinks. For the third payment, my roommate owed me their share of rent and I was ignorant to hold it on my credit card until they paid me (They asked if I could wait a bit for the money). I held it on my card for too long and was dinked the third and final late payment with their money on my card.

Debt started to sneak up on me heavily my last semester of college. When I hit around 10k in debt, I requested a personal loan from NF for 6k thinking they would accept and they did not. I had over a 700 credit score at the time. Since then, I've been trying to work and fend in my situation and it's only gotten worse. I'm at 23k in debt and my score is 625. It seems to be stopping there and isn't going lower. I haven't missed a payment on anything in forever but I have this looming debt and my financial situation isn't improving. I've managed well recently but am scared to miss another payment and max out the card. I'm trying my best to earn while applying for better jobs in my spare time constantly.

What should I do now? I am dedicated to FIXING THIS and would like to avoid bankruptcy. I just have no one in my life that seems to be educated in this realm and am looking for advice. I've been reading up on this and it seems that settling or the Hardship Program within Navy Federal could be some of my best options. Before I try, it'd be helpful to know what differentiates the two and what I should do. Will there be any long-lasting consequence to asking for hardship / a settlement? If they don't allow me to open new lines of credit as I'm paying it off I don't mind. I'm just concerned to "confess" hardship if there are any long lasting negative consequences AFTER paying off the debt.

They open on Monday so with the advice I receive I'll give them a call and keep everyone updated.

Thank you all!

CLI 6 months

Just data points. Applied 12/10/2025 for More Rewards AMEX, approved for 500 limit with 608 TU. Applied 3/10/2026 for CLI, denied, denial reason being high utilization on other cards and old charge off. Understandable.

Old charge off finally fell off last month. 667 TU. Utilization still high on other cards due to Cap1 CLI
increase strategy, which is working, albeit slowly.

Got limit increases on ALL my Cap1 cards so I decided to ask Navy too. Pleasantly surprised!

Not eligible when I joined now I am eligible

When I signed up I was not actually eligible but it let me sign up but I never used the account since you can be randomly audited and have the account closed but now I’m actually eligible, is there a portal or something where I can resubmit verification

91st day is almost here!

Hey folks, my 91st day is almost here and I wanted to do both, apply for a new CC and an increase on my limit.

My question is, what one do I do first?

What are my chances at getting a second card? Can I go for the flagship or platinum? If denied can I instantly try for another or do I need to wait another 91?

Transunion: just hit 671 fico 8

Income: 140k direct deposit with nfcu

History: brand new nearly at 91days

Existing credit:

Cap one auto loan, balance of 2k. Might pay it off next month

Nfcu cash rewards unsecured 500

How to Reconcile NF Credit Relationship

I messed up BIG TIME with NF! My history with NF dates back to 2013 with the flagship card at 7500 initial credit limit. Utilization & payment was great. Got a CLI 5500 within 2 years. In 2020 I applied for a car loan…approved for 32000 over 6 years. Paid the car loan off in 3 years then LIFE HAPPENED in 2024.

Defaulted on total credit profile. FICO 8 Credit score crashed from 746 to mid 400s. As of today my middle FICO 8 is 643. I am currently in a repayment plan for my debts and have been making on-time payments. REALLY want to re-establish my NF relationship!

Question.

So what’s best me using my credit card and paying it off immediately like right after the purchase or do I use it and wait for it to report then pay it off. Bc I’ve seen people say they use their card then pay it off like in the parking lot of where they bought it at. So what would help to build credit ? I have really no big name cards just an opensky plus (no annual fee) and my NFCU cash rewards SECURE

CLI for Both of My Credit Cards

I was all annoyed because Capital One lowered my Credit Limit from $15k to $5k on my Savor. Then I thought I'd ask Navy Fed for an increase on my Flagship and More Rewards and they increased them both from $25k to $33k. I'm pumped. Love u Navy Fed

Pledge loan duration changes

So I’m currently trying to build my credit and I just signed up for a pledge loan for the least amount $250 but was informed that they no longer do 6 months and I had to do it for 12.Would the paying 91% off still benefit me in this situation?

Gonna Apply for the secured CC. Small or Big opening deposit.

I’m Gonna go with Navy Federal secured credit card. My question is should I go with a low or big open deposit. I see a lot of people doing 300-1000 but navy said I could do more.

I was thinking 5k. I like to pay all my bills on credit and pay them off. Such as rent, utilities and etc

My question is has anyone ever started out with a large amount. If so, what did navy federal jump it to once they moved it from secured to a non secured card.

I’m just curious.

New Branch Opens in Oak Lawn, IL

Greetings!

A new NFCU branch opened in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn, IL at 110th and Cicero Ave.

I became a member today! 😬 There is employee training going on but everyone is very nice and helpful. If you're in the area or passing through, stop by.

Early Warning Services

Just an FYI - NFCU reports your balance information and all ACH activity to Early Warning daily. They maintain a file on you with very detailed data. I happened to request mine out of curiosity and was stunned at the amount of information they had. My file was in excess of 40 pages and it appears they began reporting ~2021.

As a further aside, I was an active user of OOPS many years ago and every time I used OOPS, NFCU was reporting it as an overdraft activity. Just a heads up for those not aware.

'Savings Goals' App Error

[Dont mind my many savings goals, I'm learning how to budget lol]

So in the normal balance page, I can see all of my acxount funds and how much money is allocated to each one. However, when I click on "transfer", all of the dollar amounts in my 'savings goals' accounts shows $0.00? I also cannot attempt to move any money from these accounts to my normal savings account (in blue), due to having "less funds than moveable" in said savings goal account. I can move money from my normal savings (blue) to these savings goals and the correct amount of money will appear on the home page.

Is this temporary or something I'd have to call support about? This is the first day this has happened and today would also be the day I got paid from my job (which may or may not have something to do with this). Let me know and also if anyone else has encountered this.
