AISD is cooked

To be straightforward here. I was hired externally from the Rio Grande Valley to teach at a middle school going through the restart program this year. The principal told me that I was hired in a Zoom meeting a couple of weeks ago and I had already told my close family and friends that I was hired.

Then, they needed a reference from a current supervisor. I got that to them this past Wednesday and followed up to make sure the process was going along since after getting hired, I had not gotten the contract through email and was starting to get concerned.

This Friday, I got a message from the campus academic dean. Austin ISD is not likely to hire externally and while they would hold out hope, it was looking like my offer would not be accepted by the district office and my positions, that I was told I had, would go to someone internally.

I am just really upset about how this played out. I was already looking at apartments and had friends In Austin getting excited about my move.

I do not begrudge the district decision to not hire new teachers and try to reshuffle the ones they have given that AISD is going to be cutting 200 positions this year, I just wish they had not hired me at all in these circumstances.

I told my close friend about this and he was really upset in a way that I am kind of not. I guess for now I just can not rely on AISD for anything, this experience really burned me and I just feel like I can not trust this district.

I am currently looking at the districts of San Antonio, which is a much more mixed bag, San Antonio isd is having budget issues, as are the larger (and better) districts of NEISD and NISD, but they are a few districts a little outside of the district that are growing and gaining good reputations.

I am also looking at Round Rock and Pfugulerville, but it's difficult to work as a teacher in Austin when AISD is not on your side.

Before someone brings it up, I currently work at a charter school and it has pros and cons, but mainly I want to try a traditional ISD for the moment. Just a change of pace.

Jobs that pay over 50K in the city?

Hello, I live in south (South) Texas and am looking to move to San Antonio over the summer.

I am certified as a teacher and I understand that a lot of hiring does happen in June and/or July, but I have also heard that this year SAISD and both NEISD and NISD are dealing with staffing issues and budget cuts. I do still expect that I should find a position at some point, but I am looking to expand my search.

In your experience what jobs in this city are always hiring for someone with a college degree? My degree is in English and before being a teacher I was a journalist and prior to that I did call center work.

City jobs are looking appealing but I don't know about my chances given that I am such an outsider Any advice appreciated.

So...how is going at AISD?

Hello,

To get to the point, I was hired at an AISD middle school this week as it goes through the restart program. I was told that most of the staff of this campus were either getting fired or would need to be reinterviewed to justify keeping their position. I would be moving from the RGV to Austin over the summer.

I am a little excited because it does seem like an interesting opportunity, but I wanted to ask anyone who has worked at one of these campuses over the past couple of years what it was like to be on board as this was happening. What can I expect going into this position?

Feel free to DM.

Pretty much the title

I have applied to several School districts in the city areas for both San Antonio and Austin. Last week I actually made a post about how frustrating it has been to not have offers yet, but I realized that I have never asked anyone working in these districts if they enjoy the work.

I understand that both cities have different vibes and cultures but overall I just wanted to know if anyone here had experience working at these districts, especially at the middle or high school level.

My experience is that I have taught juniors and seniors in Brownsville, Texas for three years and I like it, but it's a very high poverty area and that really factors into a lot about the district and the school culture.

I'm 26, latino and gay if anyone thinks that is important information to know.

Hello,

I have applied to be an English teacher at Northside ISD, North East ISD, and San Antonio ISD. I am certified in English and Journalism grades 7-12.

I really love the city and having lived and taught juniors and seniors in Brownsville for three years I would imagine the student population is similar but I guess I just wanted to know if any one here had experience working at these districts and if they liked it? What I love about San Antonio is the chill vibe and the humbleness of the community.

I am 26, gay, and latino if you think that matters at all.
