Where should I position my microphone (and with that, bass traps and panels) based on my room?

My main goal is to record good vocals, but I notice that at the moment the sound is quite poor (I have a pretty decent condenser mic so that’s not the issue).

Where should I ideally be placing my microphone, which direction should it face, and where should I thus put panels?

I'm about to spend a few weeks in New York City. Is it worth it to take some acting classes while I'm there, even though I'm not staying for too long?

So around the beginning of July I'm going to be spending ~2 weeks in NYC. I want to take acting classes, but there aren't very many in my small state... But since I'm going to New York and I might have the ability to actually visit for once, I was wondering if it's worth it to take these classes?

What scares me the most is once again that the visit won't be incredibly long, and thus I might be wasting money and someone elses/ my own time.

Thoughts?

Just curious since I see subreddits about recording stuff for fre e. Some projects seem interesting, but sometimes I get worried that it may be almost useless to put on a a resume (but I mean it might be practice to get better work in the future! So that’s where I’m conflicted)

Basically the title. Lots of the last 10 projects I joined asked me to join discord servers. Keep in mind these are not professional gigs or anything, which might make it more normal, but what is your experience?
