I would like to know if I can keep a female in a cage alongside my male canary. The cage is approximately 66 × 38 × 66 cm (about 26 × 15 × 26 inches), but I am planning to upgrade to a 75 × 48 × 91 cm cage (about 29.5 × 18.9 × 35.8 inches).

I have heard that they should only be kept together during breeding periods, otherwise the male may chase the female. However, I would like to have a small pair that can live together peacefully.

I should also mention that each bird would have its own separate water and food source to avoid conflicts.
