I am new to the game and have unlocked all route extensions other than the mill bridge one. I have only got the 142 and 230. What would you say is the best way to get lots of points

On Saturday 5th September, I am getting cross-country from manchester piccadilly to Stoke on trent. Is it worth getting first class for £18 extra?
