Buying a 2013–2017 Lexus GS350 or IS350 (80k–180k miles), what should I look out for?
Hey everyone,
I’m considering purchasing a 2013–2017 Lexus GS350 or IS350, likely somewhere in the 80,000–180,000 mile range, and I wanted to hear from people who have owned or driven these cars long-term.
I know these cars are generally known for reliability, but with higher mileage examples, I’m trying to figure out what maintenance items or common issues I should specifically watch for before buying.
Some things I’m curious about:
- Common mechanical problems on the GS350 or IS350
- Expensive repairs that tend to happen around higher mileage
- Transmission or AWD issues to watch for
- Carbon buildup concerns on the direct injection engines
- Suspension wear or steering issues
- Water pump, timing cover leaks, or oil leaks
- Maintenance records that are MUST-HAVEs
- Whether 150k+ miles is still considered safe on these cars
- Differences in reliability between the GS350 vs IS350
- Any red flags during a test drive or pre-purchase inspection
If you own one or previously owned one, how has reliability been for you?
Would you trust one with over 100k–150k miles as a daily driver?
Also, are there certain years/trims/options I should avoid or specifically look for?
Want to join the Lexus fam for my first car and keep this car long-term.
*Bonus points if you’ve owned both the GS350 and IS350 and can compare them.*
