Subway Sleeper Car
I was sketching a little to pass the time on the subway. This one turned out the best. Whatever that says.

This is the earlier picture of the apple that the apple tree has put so much effort into producing, despite aphid onslaughts (this drawing such worthy enemies away from their friends), and a tough start to life.
Yes. True! You do pour a little cream on top at the end. This pie was life-changing. No exaggeration.
This is the apple. The same one of nearly a month ago. It has such a nice little red bit to it now. This tree has been through so very much.
I cannot express how mind blowing eating this pie was! I can’t. It was shocking. The nostalgia was surpassed. I am the luckiest human at this moment. 100% saskatoon berries. Of course, with vanilla bean ice cream.
Now, it rests. Now, we wait…and sniff obsessively. We savour the moment of anticipation. Few moments compare.
The pie is in the oven! 100% saskatoon berries!
These are the saskatoon berries that will be going in a pie. This pie has reached mythical status for me. It’s been more years than I can count. Amazing!! I tried to bring home saskatoon berry jam once. It was confiscated at the airport. I’d given up. Now, renewed hope!!
(Also, yes, there are some kitchen renovations going on.)
I chose one little sapling from my yard after a crazy cottonwood invasion. This one is growing well. I removed all the wire last fall and trimmed it this spring. I love the shape of this so far!
This is a the first repot. The alder was growing so well, with cool roots, but I put a giant flat rock under it. I didn’t do a video. It was an in-the-moment-idea. I’ve tried a few things on this tree. I’m super excited about the little sprouts near the bottom. I think they may eventually be the main branches.
Also, trying out low stress training on bonsai. We will have to see.
Only one picture. It’s hard to take pictures of this. Maybe I will try later. I love pie.
These were found outside a sumo stable in Japan. How many caretakers looked after these, we wonder?
After one hell of a near-unbelievably exciting astro-mystical battle, the team heads for the cool air of the subway. What else would they do?
The issue is posted as a whole and then the individual squares follow.
If you’re new to the series, here you first meet the team: Dr. door, Super Window, and Roofie.
In the beginning, Dr. door had to battle an out-of-control Winterberry bush. It turned out to be a rescue mission. A spindly little hard-to-identify potted apple tree was completely hidden and squished behind the bush and in the fence corner. How long had it been a prisoner? No one knows. Dr. door saved the little tree and it’s trying. One little apple this year! It’s also the aphid magnet for the garden.
