Fire Chief Mullin thinks Brandeis students should walk a fifth of a mile to cross South Street
At the June 18 traffic commission meeting, Fire Chief Randy Mullin, who made $234,937 last year and who has a vote on the traffic commission, and who has opposed any and every proposed traffic calming measure to slow drivers, suggested Brandeis students walk 1,000 feet to use a footbridge instead of crossing the 25 feet of South Street at a crosswalk he calls dangerous, on a street he calls dangerous.
Brandeis representatives came before the commission to propose a larger and brighter RRFB (the flashing yellow lights) after a snow plow driver destroyed an automatic crosswalk they installed last year where observant students wouldn't have to press a button on Shabbat.
Mullin then asked if Brandeis would build a tunnel.
Chief Mullin's role on the traffic commission is putatively to make our streets safer for everyone.
Instead, he values drivers' ability to go 40mph past a college campus and elementary school over the ability of human beings to traverse their city on foot.
What exactly is Randy Mullin doing to "earn" $234,937?
